The toon hippo coughed up the toon bear. The toon bear coughed up the toon skunk. The toon skunk did NOT cough up the human tourist. I'd say it is a lesson on not trusting toons, even when they are playing a silly Russian Doll game, but it's hard to learn from a mistake when it results in a short trip through a skunk's digestive tract.

Toons may generally be considered to be governed by the rule of funny. Meaning whether or not something comes out unharmed or is... I dunno, converted into paint or whatever, depends on which result would be more funny.
Skunk eats a mouse? Funnier if the mouse stays alive.
Skunk eats a bomb? Funnier if her belly expands for half a second and then you never see the bomb again.
