So I have a confession. I actually love Amarant. I know he gains a lot of ire for being less important to the story than even Quina, but my young, edgy self always thought he was badass. This is primarily due to his design which I find to be one of the most visually striking in the whole game...at least in terms of his physical appearance. His outfit , not so much!

Excluding his pale skin and burning hair, Amarant is just kind of a blob of green. The green is appealing in terms of color scheme, but it ends there. His outfit is so bland that it honestly fits more for a background character than a main character...though I suppose there's the argument that he's a glorified background character, but I digress!

Along with Eiko, he was one I knew going in that I wanted to give him a visual overhaul. I may not be able to change the story, but I can draw a new design for him and all around pretty happy with this. (Yes, the references are exactly what you think they are. I wasn't trying to be subtle.) I did what I set out to do, even if it took two weeks longer then I had initially wanted. I might go back to this, I have ideas of how to draw certain other characters and I've been entertaining the thought of rewriting some of the story in order to bulk our Freya and Amarant's roles more...is that pretentious of me? I sure hope not!

In any case, it was nice to really give this game that means so much a little shout out and I hope you liked it too, if you're a fellow Final Fantasy IX fan. May it be remembered for another 25 years!
