For what price would you pay for your twisted mistress? For her tainted love? Her sickening affection? What would you offer for her fealty? Her superiority? Her everything?
The stench of blood and old magic saturates the air in a nauseating concoction. The drawn sigils upon worn stone pulsate like a heartbeat, whilst veins of sacchrine red trickle through the indentations.
It's not enough.
More blood for our Sanguine Mistress! One of the hooded figures cries out in a shrill plea, their pallid hands trembling as they clasp in a prayer for forgiveness. How could they ever assume such paltry sacrifice would be enough? Would ever please Her? Nothing was good enough. Nothing. Was. Enough.
The scarlet flames flicker in morbid approval, gnawing further on their waxen cages as their sickly gleam grows brighter. Agreement, perhaps.
There is a frenzied scramble for the gilded dagger, whose blade shines more red than silver now. They're eager. Eager to give whatever cost she demands— eager to give themselves to a greater ideal. One cry of victory triumphs over the bellows of anguish at a purpose stolen. And what soon follows it is a wet plunge as the weapon claims yet another life.
The body slumps. It falls ungracefully. Tendrils of red stream from its gaping wound to pour into the grooves of the summoning circle, joining its brethren in a holy grail most grand.
They worry not. For those most loved by Her will breathe once more in an offer most glorious: a place within her eternal congress.
To serve Her will for one's eternal afterlife... surely, there is no better honor?
The air thickens with a suffocating mist. The flames distort and the sigils bleed. And through the insanity-driven mumur of chants long forgotten... Her roar silences all.
She Is Here.

Sooo this has been yet another idea that's been brewing in mind for a bit with Ascelin, and least to say, I absolutely adore how it turned out! Not to mention, the story was honestly so fun for me to write despite being quite a bit tired lmao. For a while, Ascelin's been a bit of a puzzle to me in trying to figure out a story that I liked for her. One that was fitting and... 'evil', in a sense, without it being comically so. And while I don't know if what I had in mind is the most original thing ever (tbh I doubt it lmao), I did finally manage to hash out some concrete details for this lady that I'm excited to show through art and writing. She is not an actual god, but she is... something weird lol. Or, as I like to call her: An Utter Menace.
To confirm, yes, Ascelin 1000% re-animates the corpses of her dead followers if she likes them. Hell, if she really likes them, even if they're alive, she may kill them (or order them to... you know, do it themselves lmao) just so that they can join her eternal following. It is a sort of twisted 'love', selfish and greedy. Which is what Ascelin is about, tbh. Long story short, expect a piece someday of Ascelin actually showcasing her necromancer abilities lol.
Lore yap aside, gosh I LOVE this piece so much! The colors of it just scratch my brain so immensely well. I'm starting to also really, really love the sort of 'sickly' green that I've seen artists use in Ascelin's pieces. Its such a nice contrast with the red, and invokes all the proper feelings needed when looking at this dreaded dragon of the night!

Wow, this is a powerful ritual.
With a powerful result.
>It's a sort of twisted 'love', selfish and greedy.
Hah, that's exactly the kind of love for which we sometimes love dragons so much. Well, the main thing is that it doesn't go too far, but still...
>Long story short, expect a piece someday of Ascelin actually showing off her necromancer abilities lol.
Hell yasss. Still, I love the theme of summoning and games with magic that directly affects life. In BOTH directions. And good necromancy, surprisingly, is as rare or even less rare than beautiful magic of restoration and life...

How far is too far though... that is the question to be asked and pondered!
You and me both! Getting some art to depict it is at the top of my 'Ascelin art ideas' list. I think I want to do a few different pieces depicting her complex relationship with it, since she does lovingly reanimate her cult followers... But also definitely uhm... 'evil derg doing evil thing' reanimates enemies or whoever else catches her eye to commit atrocities in her name, willing or not. So...yes lol SOON:TM:

Gorgeous! I might be a liiiiitle bit biased, but that black and red is peak👌
An Utter Menace is definitely a fitting name for her! Am curious to see how her lore fleshes out in the future with the continuing theme of summoning and necromancy.
Really cool art, Dest, and quite the story to go with it!
