They Say that every piece of art has a story. Cliff notes? This one was worth the tale to make my first wraparound cover. And its an exclusive for TMNT Journeys #1 . And Im now a part of turtles history as the 3rd ever cover appearance of the Super Turtles and the 2nd cover appearance ever of the tree troll.
If you guys missed the updates or new here- I do comic covers and often exclusive variants. I pitched this concept for the now approved covers (check em here on league of comic geeks) https://leagueofcomicgeeks.com/comi.....mnt-journeys-1
They approved the idea but asked for a list of characters, I obliged. couple weeks roll by--- My gig has me working graphics and print media stuff for other projects in addition to cover art---so i had about 72 hours to complete this before the deadline. I had just finished another cover the day before (Beneath the Trees etc) & I was working with a colorist who told me he would have more than enough time. (fast forward---i had to fix a lot of color stuff---so we split color duties about 50 50 lol).
Comics are an adventure- basically the licensee told us a day before it was due that I had to swap out a character or two. Traditional media perils but thankfully Ive been doing this long enough to make a patch or two. After that- we got told we had to change some colors (like fugitoids big armor variant) and the triceraton had to have white eyes not red. So I got another 36 hours extension for the swap and color shifts---- During which of course i realized the guy i had worked with hadnt used my merged file for the colors---so i had to quick wrap the clouds digitally.
But the shortest version? Check out my new official IDW Publishing cover guys! Thanks for reading (they are going to reprinting Volume 4 by Laird and Lawson from early 2000s and gonna finally print the last issues) and thus far- Im the only other variants). I did a black and white with spot color as well.
Two 11x17 originals pencil and ink, and digital colors by myself and Ferry Verdyal. The title treatments look great and this drops next week.
