Mythic Beast Ranger: Jackalope Yellow
Whelp, its been 11 months since I uploaded the blue one, so thought I might as well upload the next one, keep you all waiting for them all for the next 13 years to get all their descriptions (i'm just kidding I'm going to try and upload these more often).
Anyways, to the story of how Jaqueline got her morpher.
For her, it started on an end of year school trip, a weekend trip out into the desert to see one of the historical mine sites, an old gold mine that'd long since been turned into a tourist trap just a few hours drive out from Amarillo.
It was a fun little place to go to, and had small monitored mines that people could go through and collect gems and gold to trade in at the front desk for prizes; a gamification for sure but one that also taught kids about the history of the place, and how things were back then, so it was educational and also engaged in physical activity to boot. Jackie herself was on the trip as one of the 'young adult chaperones', part of her early college credit courses. Of course she got to participate a little bit as well, walking through the long and winding caves that were built for this child and tween friendly mining and cave diving. And this was intentional, special small gemstones hidden up in places for the older kids and adults to get for a bit more grown up prizes. So when Jackie saw a small yellow gemstone in the shape of a rabbits head, she didn't think much of it and slipped it into her pocket.
And all seemed good for a while. They all got in their little faux mining camp rooms for the night, and soon enough all the students and chaperones were asleep.
At around 3 in the morning though, Jackie woke up. She wasn't sure why but she felt a cold sweat down the back of her neck. And then she heard it again, her tall ears perking and listening around, and faintly off in the distance she could hear it, the sound of something calling for help. Out of instinct she did a headcount of those in her cabin, giving a sigh of relief at seeing they were all there. She then waited a tick, and heard the cry out again, faint and muffled in the distance, and with that she quickly got herself fully dressed and started out towards the main chaperone's cabin. It took a bit, but eventually they woke up. She tried to explain that she heard something coming from the mines, and asked to make sure everyone was accounted for or if they should check, but the frilled lizard woman reassured her, tiredly, that everyone had already been taken account for and that she was likely just hearing a wild animal or something and to go back to sleep, before closing the door in her face.
As she walked back though, she heard it again, and in a spur of the moment, she changed directions, and started out towards the sounds of the voices, faint and infrequent as they were. Ears were perked and eyes were watching, luckily it was a very clear night in the desert, and the moon was full, so it wasn't that dark, comparatively, to what a night could be.
Even still though, after a half hour of searching, and a good fifteen minutes without hearing anyone, she was about to give up and concede that it was just some wild animal she'd heard, until she turned around and saw a small, feral, wild jackrabbit in front of her. Except, as she watched it, it shimmered with a yellow light, and that light extended above its head should stop and she could see now that it wasn't a wild jackrabbit, but a jackalope, something that, as far as she knew, shouldn't exist. It looked at her for a few seconds, tilting its head, and then took off, bounding through the desert brush.
Jackie acted on instinct, and started to follow it, dipping and dodging around bushes and cacti and tumbleweeds and small boulders, following the small glowing jackalope through the desert until she finally saw what had been the cause of the cries earlier. A pair of children, down in a partly collapsed mine shaft, about 20 feet down from the surface, which was a sandy sinkhole She could tell looking down already that the kids had been down here a while, but the desert winds and sounds of other screaming of joy from children and such from the more accessible mines nearby; they'd been down there long enough that Jackie was certain that had she not found them they'd certainly have passed on by morning. Right now even the small canine girl was barely able to lift their head up to look up towards Jackie, and even then that only happened as Jackie was partly blocking out the moonlight.
Jackie's attention is drawn again as the Jackalope nearby, walks over to the edge of the pit and just...jumps down in, disappearing from sight. Though when it does that, Jackie feels a sensation in herself, a power growing. As it is nighttime and she's looking down, she notices that the small gem she'd picked up is now glowing, illuminating the area, and she can feel her legs getting stronger. She looks back down to the nearly unconscious children, back the direction she came, and makes a split second decision, based entirely off of what the Jackalope had done, and she walks over to the edge and very slowly lowers herself down carefully, using hand and footholds to get down to both of the kids safely. The girl mutters something incoherent, before going quiet. Jackie quickly reaches down and feels both of their necks, and gives a light sigh of some relief, feeling that they're both still alive, albeit with very weak heartbeats. And now that she was down here, and had a small light source, she could see the numerous small juice pouches and candy wrappers around, the things that likely kept them both alive down here, as well as the fact that they'd been sheltered away from the sunlight for the most part.
Now though she had a problem, she was down but she didn't know how to get out. She did, at least though, carefully lift up both of the kids onto her shoulders, supporting them off the ground as she looked around. And after some seconds of coming up with nothing, the jackalope re-appeared before her, looking at her a few seconds, and then leaping up, the full 20 feet up, to the outside of the mine. When it did so, Jackie was almost certain she could feel a surge of strength in her own legs, and somehow she knew what to do next.
So she braced herself, and with a powerful thrust of her legs down, she leaped, and jumped, and found herself soaring a good ten feet up above the rim, overshooting the twenty foot jump that she needed to make in the process, landing a bit roughly on her legs though, unable to run because of the kids. When she landed the jackalope was waiting up there for her, where it gave a nod back towards the camp, and then it disappeared; not running off, just flat out disappeared.
The camp became very active then, at four in the morning, when Jackie had gotten back with the two nearly dead children, but their health quickly took priority and a medical helicopter was called in to take them to the nearest hospital. And Jackie, after a bit of questioning, was allowed to go back to school, though it wouldn't be long until one day, while walking to the restroom at the school, a few months later, that she'd suddenly find herself not in her school restroom, but a place that looked like some kind of futuristic forge.
"Jacqueline, wonderful to have finally managed to have you join us. Apologies for the suddeness of it all but, time for a bit of change...an upgrade if you will."
And there's the story of how Jacqueline Davis got her morphing crystal, which in turn would become her mythical morpher which she'd use as the protector of texas. I wrote all of this off the top of my head lol.
