Time for the second ref of Jade!
As usual, I contacted
0laffson for the outfit design, since I know he'll take my ideas and turn it into something great, while sticking to historical influences like I prefer. And as usual, he did great! We had a whole bunch of conversations about specifics, how to add protection without compromising stealth and agility, and how to strip it down for infiltration work.
Jade's usual weaponry consists of a langmesser with a knuckle bow for extra hand protection, a high-power recurve bow, a stiletto knife (not depicted), and a pistol he keeps stowed on his back behind his cloak. The pistol and knife aren't primary weapons by any means, but serve as weapons to bring out as a surprise from under the cloak.
As shown on the left, Jade is ambidextrous, not because he was born that way, but through extensive training - it helps with versatility of firing positions with the bow, and can surprise and throw off an opponent while fighting with the sword.
His technique with the bow is something called Slavic Draw, a technique that's faster than typical olympic style draw, where you place the arrow on the thumb side of the bow and hold it in place with the index finger of the rear hand, while pulling the bowstring back with the bottom three fingers. It wouldn't work well with a super high draw strength bow, but his is at about 120 pounds at full draw, on the lower end for war bows but still plenty to punch through most lighter armour like chainmail and any cloth/leather armour.
His armour consists of a cloth-covered breastplate with brigandine to cover the abdomen and hips, plate on the elbow and forearm on his right arm with a finger-less hourglass gauntlet on the right hand, and a bracer on the left with leather to protect against incidental strikes from his own bowstring. He also wears plate greaves covering only the front of the shins, with leather kneepads to add a bit of protection while still letting him kneel down on hard surfaces without making noise.

Figuring out all the little details with 0laffson was so much fun! We spent ages figuring out every little piece of armour, which weapons he would use, what he would remove for the lighter outfit, all that stuff. Oh, and we probably spent 2-3 hours on the quiver alone, trying to find some historical examples of what might have been done to let him move however he wants, while making sure he won't accidentally drop arrows due to acrobatics and such.
And yes, absolutely! His fur pattern is much closer to their mother's, while River's is closer to their father's.
