Where a couple of amazing rolls meant that after one of these crystalline beasties tore the party's high-speed wagon in two he gracefully sailed through the air -and- avoided an attack from another jumping into the air to meet him ( IT WAS SO gfadrfafrdsf COOL)

That's awesome! I love when DMs are able to make backstory and campaign plot synergize like that. It really makes you feel like your character's story matters, which is so important to players and the narrative overall.
