Cosmo is part of an extremely advanced interdimensional species. They've grown beyond the need of anything material, there is plenty and abundance for all, and across every strata of society incredible technology able to cater to every whimsy and want is available. For recreation and to satisfy his own curiosity, he has taken a ship and journeyed to a random galaxy in a random universe to see what he can find.
One of the souvenirs he's acquired from his foray is a lifeform snatched from a comparatively primitive space station orbiting an inhospitable, mineral rich world. Although almost completely robotic, there's a small trace of organic life still inside. An irresistible specimen for his studies. Naturally, they put up a fight when they got snatched, but that's hardly an issue for a swarm of dozens of floating hands.
Like Cosmo, the specimen is nowhere near the 40 000 year-old mark, so they've been swiftly put into diapers and provided with a pacifier. They'll be kept sealed inside a special containment sphere and immobilized by the inflatable inner walls until it's time for further examination. For now, Cosmo has a few more spots he wants to check, then he has to head home with his prizes in tow.
