This is an idea I had a while back... part of a 'what if they were in a band' idea made me think of Janelle, with four arms, trying to play both necks of a dual-neck guitar, where she could theoretically play both lead and and bass guitar at the same time. So I asked
SonicSweeti to help me visualize it.
Of course, it's not as easy as just having four hands, because there's still only one brain directing them, so it's hard to play two different lines of music at the same time... not to mention she's still learning at the moment.
Hopefully she'll get a better handle on it eventually.

*snickers* And now I'm remembering a filk called "The Filk Was Great At This Year's Westercon"... which is all references to other filkers and events. One of the lines was "Leslie Fish was off in the corner tuning up her twelve-string... and tuning up her twelve-string... and tuning up her twelve-string..."
According to the Wikipedia page on multi-neck guitars a number of people have used them, from Geddy Lee of Rush, to Mike Rutherford of Genesis, to Pat Smear of Foo Fighters, and the first such instrument made actually dates back to the mid-1800s, though they only started getting common in the 1970s. They're not uncommon at live shows for exactly the reason you mentioned: it allows someone to switch between types of guitar without having to physically switch guitars.
