Folks often forget that flowers are reproductive organs; makes some of these designs more amusing than probably intended, especially the big flower stamen tails. 😛
Funnily enough I helped a friend redesign one of their characters a few weeks ago. Hadn't done this kind of thing before; very rewarding when you hit upon an idea that they love.

;) I don't forget
it's an interesting idea to play around with, I feel like plant stuff is SUPER under-utilized on this site

but I did this a while ago, I think it's apt
aw yaaaaaay we love friends helping friends with character design lol

I also love seeing development sketches! Experimentation is so much fun. Look at all these fancy critters. Reminds me of the joys of making Floran characters in Starbound.
Although I agree that the final version's even better as a tail, I like how the original banana-tail sketch looks like a fancy cravat from the 1800s.

ah but the joy of futzing around with a design and you don't know what you're looking for until it itches that weird part of the brain and you go AH THERE IT IS- that's worth the effort
although some days I do just go 'oh my god I can't wait for this to be over' but I don't think that's a healthy approach to art is it (^_ ^")

haha i was exaggerating tough i am just a focused person so i stick with a vision. regardless in 3D you dont need to manually draw to a bunch of shapes and color palates. so the adjustments tend to be more granular and build towards the thing you want. with 1 month of time for making a single rigged model you have time to think.
a Tedious process in which you manually turn a 3D model into a Flat 2D sheet.
its partly automated but still tedious , it works kinda like unfolding a cardboard box but with polygons.
the resulting 2D copy is used to paint textures and details on a model. so when you see a 3D character there is actually a 2D model of them thats used for all the colors and textures. its the only way for the computer to know what part of a texture belongs to which part of the model.
here is an example of my own.
