A very nice end. It would be amusing to think that this story has repeated itself over time. Each time someone pierced a deeper knowledge of the swamps, it was thanks to such a creature, and every time they age, then end up turning. For the rest of the village, they finally met their end, but for them, they simply joined their love forever.
Oh that's a very romantic idea!
I like to think that the human one sometimes comes back in human form in the swamp and there are legends about him from that moment.
"The Swamp Man appears to guide the lost souls in the swamp or protect them from the monsters, if they are considered worthy. And he punishes the evil ones by unleashing the powerful guardian of the swamp on them."
"The soul of a human has been corrupted by the Swamp over time, he became a monster just like the others."
"A human feel in love with a monster that turned him and made him just like the others monsters he controls. If you ever see him, do not trust him or he will snatch you and bring you back to his lover."
That type of stuff :D

I LOVED the design of the merman, I loved the setting and the little glimpse we got of their lives. I would have kept reading for another 300 pages if you had posted it.
