an update from the old reference sheet, updating Clan's height to be 2 feet tall instead of 1.
Species
Clan is a Falidae, a race of cat like beings hailing from the death world of Ferros. Ferros was an ecumenopolis, but the original inhabitants mysteriously vanished eons ago, leaving nature to reclaim the planet and evolve in the strange ecosystem formed out of the immortal spires that encompass the planet. Falidae are one of them, adapting to crawling through the winding pipes, tubes, and vents that make up the city's complex infrastructure, forming communities in places impossible for predators to reach.
Species Biology
Falidae have total night vision, their eyes are slightly bioluminescent to make the light particles necessary to bounce into their eyes. This means they can see and hunt in absolute darkness, but it also means their glowing eyes are a dead giveaway to prey, something they try to mitigate with hunting tactics that rely on long range spear throwing and hunting critters dumber than they are.
An essential adaptation many of the subterranean creatures on Ferros developed was a complete immunity to gamma radiation, as much of the underground generators and components broke down, creating many pockets of deadly radiation. Falidae are among those species that developed said immunity.
One of the stranger evolutionary developments of Ferros was biological immortality. Many creatures on the alien world do not die of old age as their telomeres replicate indefinitely, a result of the brutal existence on the death world that saw a higher mortality rate, so larger creatures live long to increase their reproduction age to compensate. This has some Falidae living for thousands of years and still being young and spry; a rare feat considering the extreme environment they live in.
Falidae develop diamond claws as they age, when they are kittens their claws are not fully formed, giving the nickname "soft paws". It takes many many years for the claws to develop inside their digits, this is because unlike normal claws made out of keratin, the unique super metals and minerals that slowly shed from the city affect the environment, which slowly enter the bodies of the creatures living in it via the food they eat and water they drink. These minerals are absorbed and used to develop parts of the body made of this super tough material, such as armored hides, metal mandibles, and in the Falidae's case diamond claws that can cut through near everything. It is encouraged for kittens to lick the mineral rich metals littered throughout Ferros to help them develop healthy strong claws. When their claws are fully developed and retract from their paws for the first time, usually at around 33 years, it is considered in Falidae society a coming of age and transition into adult hood. Their first retraction is painful as the new claws push through, much like teething does for an infant's gums, but this pain goes away after a few days as their body gets used to the new claws.
Height and weight
Falidae are immensely small, with flexible collarbones so they could fit through even the tightest of passages. This is so they could traverse the tiny passages for safety and hunting. Adult Falidae are 2 ft tall, or 60 cm, and weight ranges from 12 pounds to 18 pounds. Their kittens are 6 inches and 2 pounds, massive compared to their mothers so despite being more fit for giving birth than humans are, they only have one child at a time instead of full litters.
culture
Falidae number in the billions and cover the planet, however no one looking at the planet would suspect this as the Falidae rarely leave the safety of the underground, leaving the surface to be roamed by some of the most massive and deadly predators in the universe. The vast majority of Falidae live in small communities known as tribes, however there is some Falidae that have successfully reverse engineered the lost technology of the lost civilization, wielding weapons that can atomize targets. However, Falidae are scattered and secluded, the odds of a tribal Falidae meeting an advanced Falidae are near zero.
Backstory
Hailing from Darkwater Tribe, Clan was excellent at scavenging from the slime tunnels, the deadliest tunnel system near the tribe. One day while making scavenging trips to the surface, he saw a spacecraft parked nearby. Scavengers from off planet would try to scavenge from Ferros, however the majority of them underestimate the ecosystem and end up never leaving the world alive. Seeing his oppertunity for adventure, Clan stowed away on the vessel, having it take him to new places never seen before.
