After a long, fattening adventure, Lucian needs to take a moment to unwind. and in the process they make a new connection...
Hey! I wrote a thing! it's a bit small but it's done and finished and I'm proud of that! i figured something simple would be good to help make sure i could actually finish so i went with something to just explore my characters and how they might interact. I hope you enjoy!
Osterwick was always rather peaceful when the sun started to set. most shops were closing up around now, heroes were heading back home to rest. and the warm orange light of the sunset cast over the city. Lucian loved this sight, it was always the highlight of returning to his hometown. but he was a bit distracted at the current moment.
"Huff... Huff... C'mon..."
The normally slim and agile wolf was waddling through the streets. His massive fluffy belly flopped against his knees with every laborious step, acting as the only form of modesty for the lardball. his sagging melon moobs bounced in lockstep with his belly. his eyes glowed a piercing purple hue with no visible iris, their usual intimidating appearance diminished when contrasted with his oversized cheeks. And his thick, beachball-sized ass cheeks slapped against each other with each step, the locals spared from it's thunderclaps only by his thick coat of white fur. Thankfully it wasn't that big a deal here, but it was embarrassing for the wolf nonetheless.
The town library was always a comfortable escape from the chaos of his guildmates. His room in the tavern was far too noisy for him to get any work done, and he needed to buckle down and focus before nightfall hit. The wolf knew this was the perfect place to work. He had his satchel and trusty staff with him, even if that staff acted more as a walking stick now
The library stood by the edge of town. It was a rather small freestanding wooden building with a couple flowerbeds near the front, it's gable roof fashioned to resemble an open book resting atop the structure. It was a cozy little place. And one Lucian loved to come by whenever he's in town. Inside the building was a compact space with a style that could kindly be described as antique. Bookshelves that reached over 10ft high eclipsed by a small loft tucked away at the tip of the roof. Natural light flowing in from the many small windows scattered throughout. And a few meticulously crafted cage lanterns hanging overhead. When he entered, the Aardvark lady behind the counter saw the massive pile of wolf waddling towards her and let's out a soft chuckle.
"Hello Lucian. Let me guess... One of Razanu's pranks?"
"No, bloat dart trap"
"Ya should've dodged it~"
"Very funny"
The wolf flashed his membership card to her as he waddled towards the main room, before the Secretary piped up again.
"Oh yeah, I think someone else is in your window spot right now, might wanna try somewhere upstairs, I'm not paying for you breaking my chairs again"
"Wait really?" the wolf let's out a frustrated grumble. "I'm in no shape to climb stairs."
"Well, maybe she wants company?"
Lucian started to blush at that comment. "Probably not while I'm like this..."
The aardvark scoffed. "You and I both know that's not true. Don't worry about it"
"Fine. Fine..."
He let's out a huff and heads down to the study. A small outcrop with a few fancy chairs that look much more comfortable and sturdy then they actually were. Right by the wall was a large bay window overlooking a flower garden. A cozy little place that Lucian loved sitting in. But sure enough sitting in the bay window was a thin, elegant goat lady staring out the window. She was draped in fine red silks and her back-curled horns were adorned with golden braces, with a chain hanging loosely between them. Her white fur and light blond hair looked elegantly maintained. Lucian felt like a messy fuzzball by comparison, and wasn't sure he should say anything, before he could make a choice one way or the other, the goat turned around to see him. She looked a bit shocked at first. But that quickly changed to a smile. While Lucian stumbled a bit before clearing his throat
"Hello, i uh. Was wondering if there was room for another. I normally sit here and-"
"Oh certainly. I take it you're too wide to reach the upstairs nook?"
The wolf's ears droop down "... Yes."
The goat let out quiet chuckle before scooting over to the side and patting the open seat, letting Lucian lumber on over and sit his butt down beside her. He was perfectly content to not say a single word more. Pulling his tailoring kit out of his bag as well as a pile of purple cloth scraps and a roll of the same cloth. A few minutes pass in silence as the wolf puts the robes back together and the goat stares out the window. But as the robes start to take shape, the goat looks back over
"Gift for a friend?"
"No, just repairing my usual outfit"
"Seems rather small for such a large wolf"
"T-this isn't my usual size. More often my build is similar to yours"
"Well you don't hold yourself like someone who's unaware of the space they take up"
The wolf stopped for a moment and looked over. "What is that supposed to mean?"
"It means you're familiar with being a fatass~" she tried her best to hold back a chuckle. "Does this happen often?"
"It's an... Occupational hazard."
"Is it a common one?"
"... About twice a month. Why do you care?"
The wolf shuffles a bit to try and not sit as close to the goat. Then suddenly she was holding a scroll in front of his face. He looked up at her and she seemed to just look at him expectantly. So he took the scroll and opened it up, seeing a pattern of somewhat familiar runes.
"An armor enchantment?"
"It's elastic strength" the goat responded "It'll make it so your robes will stretch out with your body rather than just tearing apart every time you grow"
"Oh! that's quite useful. Is this an offer? I have some gold with me that-"
"It's free you dofus~"
She reaches over and gently presses the tip of her finger against his nose for a moment. And the wolf just starts blushing
"W-wait are you sure? This seems rather valuable and-"
"Relax. I can make those easily. And I'd rather not see someone constantly waste their time repairing the same set of clothes over and over when I have an easy fix for it."
She leans back, then a smile comes over her face
"Tell ya what. I always need more gear to test my enchantments on, robes, belts, gloves, anything really. You're a tailor, so you likely make some for practice or that don't come out right. If you have any of those spare then I'll buy them from you"
"Well.. that sounds reasonable enough. But you said you can make these?"
He shakes the scroll for emphasize, and the goat nods
"Why don't we cut out the middleman then? I'll give you the excess gear I make and you give me your extra enchantment scrolls. I have a rather large party and none of us know an enchanter so anything would be helpful"
"Sounds like a deal fuzzbutt~"
She reaches out her hand and the wolf quickly grabbed it for a handshake
"Oh and what do I call you? Aside from fuzzbutt of course"
"I'd prefer Lucian. And you?"
"Phahiri. Pleased to make your acquaintance"...
