An experimental painting of a dream I had a few months back. It was of a deer happily prancing in a field. Some kind of arrow in it's flank. Trotting past bramble bushes and helping itself to all the berries that grew on it. The sun on it's back. It felt really peaceful, and in a way I indeitified with that deer. It still thrived despite that arrow
We all have things that happened in the past, things we'd rather forget, but ones that still sometimes float to the surface. That dream gave me the confidence that no matter how you start, no matter what might happen, you are never ''defective''. You can always keep getting back up and enjoying the little things the world has to offer. Like a nice walk on a sunny day, or a tasty snack. I know I'm going to fall down many more times in the future, and likely so will you reading this! But even if there's so many arrows you turn into a pincushion, you can still thrive and prance around. And that's pretty cool 🦌
This painting was a fun experiment! It's partly inspired by the MTG card ''Fey Steed'' https://scryfall.com/card/afc/274/fey-steed
I love the concept of a big mighty deer being a mount. And I'm quite surprised you barely see it. I feel a red deer would be more intimidating than a horse. Though then again, maybe they'd be harder to maneuver through forests with that big coat-rack on their head.
Thank you for reading, and for your continued support

Your work really has a dream like quality already but this definitely takes it to another level, which makes sense given the context! The way colors blend together is so wonderful, like the way that orange leads into your tail. It's so nuts how far you've come with painting.
It is truly inspiring how far you can go in spite of the injuries and set backs we sustain. As long as we breathe we can always keep going!

I think it depends on the deer - warhorses had to be pretty big and bulky to carry a fully armored warrior into battle. Doing some quick looking up ... even a red deer would have been on the small size for a destrier. Perhaps an elk ... well, that just makes me think of the Firebird segment from Fantasia 2000, which isn't terribly battle related at all. I've gone and distracted myself.
And of course, armies that didn't rely on heavy armor were able to field smaller horses, including at least one unit mounted on ponies.
I do imagine the antlers might get in the way of a lance or bow, though ... but hey, fantasy needn't always be practical. I have a halfling who rides a wolverine, after all.

Oooooh, this is so dreamy!! I like that the Dragonite's tail and the deer's hooves fade into the environment, and the way the front trees are blue and brown, the sky's whirls, the radiant purple on the snow--you really nailed to emphasize the dreaminess of it all, while still maintaining the main features of the drawing!
You know, the dreaminess and the deer reminds me of Vashti Bunyan's album, Heartleap; the cover has a white deer leaping on a black background. Her music is really otherworldly, and your artstyle often reminds me of it <3

Thank you for noticing those purple swirls in the snow! I love how you take the time to look at the intricacies of a piece and to communicate that back to the artist as you have done in the past. It makes me want to continue caring about the littler details.
I took a listen to the album in question. I'm honored you'd compare this piece to it! It sounds so calm and soothing, as if a tree is singing you a lullaby. Thank you for making me aware of it

Awwwww, I really appreciate that! It's always the little things that make a huge difference :3>
A tree singing a lullaby is such a good description, many of her songs really feel that way! Her works are undoubtedly worth looking into, I'm sure you'll love them ^w^

to thrive in spite of past wounds and pain, to prance in spite of the pain and find joy, what an inspiring message. it would be so easy to give up, but if we did, we would deny ourselves the good things in life. i think this image found its way to me at the right time in my life.
Thank you for posting and for sharing both the dream, and what it meant to you.

Beautiful artwork and love all the dream meaning behind it, it really enhances the already dreamy setting <3 I love big elk, deer, reindeer mounts so much too! <3 I feel there are so many good more mounts besides horses that suit better so many fantasy settings :3
