Benji is scared out of his mind and borderline catatonic for nearly the first week he finds himself in the Pokemon world. It takes him several days - and the gentle coaxing of Finn's parents - to slowly accept that what is happening is real, and that he isn't experiencing some sort of psychotic break. He doesn't even know what a Pokemon is, so he has almost no frame of reference to start from.
It takes him even longer to adjust to his new form. Going from six feet tall to barely a foot is disorienting enough, but there's also the matter of the shorter, stubbier legs, the lack of thumbs, the hyper-sensitive, moveable ears that can hear a pin drop from a football field away, and feeling like you're wearing a whole body sweater that you can never take off. Oh, and he has a tail now.
His nose won't stop twitching. Normally, he doesn't notice it, but when he does it's all he can think about and it drives him crazy. Why does he feel compelled to keep one ear curled up at all times? He tried to keep them both unfurled for a whole day once, but the longer he did, the more nervous and anxious he became. He didn't even make it half an hour at most. Something about self-defense, Latte had mentioned.
It's weird that everyone here just happens to speak English, what with being a parallel universe and all. But then... is that English? When he slows down and listens closely, he realizes, it isn't. Why can he understand it? Why can he speak it? It's all just a bunch of animal noises, and his own voice is so much higher pitched now.
Almost everything and everyone around him is bigger and stronger than he is, even the other "small" Pokemon. Some latent instinct in the back of his mind constantly screams at him to run and hide, and it takes him a considerable amount of time to learn how to silence it.
Suffice to say, the poor guy has a very rocky start.

Thankfully, Benji doesn't have to deal with that aspect, not directly at least. The average hoi polloi has no idea what a human is, and has most likely never even heard the word.
But those few who are in the know are aware that a human showing up means something bad's about to happen, which is putting a lot of the leadership on edge and impatient about making sure he's ready to deal with it - whatever "it" is. They don't really blame him because they know better, but many of them are unfairly resentful towards him, since the last world-ending event wasn't even all that long ago.

Because its cuter if they have to hold tools in their mouth instead

It's cute when it happens to others (and you are there to see), but much less cute when it happens to you.
By the way, thanks for the vid, it sure was something. And those teeth better repair themselves or grow back, cause using tools with your mouth? Unless you don't mind only eating soup and yogurt very soon, don't.

Also said something similar in the tags on Tumblr, but you’re one of the few people I’ve seen exploring the potential body dysmorphia that could come with getting turned into a Pokemon. I think it’s because becoming a Pokemon is kinda wish fulfillment for a lot of us in the PMD space (including myself lol), but having the transformation be traumatic and upsetting is so uncommon, and I kinda wish it was explored more! Because waking up in a body that isn’t your own is kinda terrifying! Like sure, if I woke up and I was a cute little rabbit, I’d be ecstatic, but I’m not everyone.
I find the idea fascinating. The games gloss over it for obvious reasons, but I think even if its something you yearn for, it'd be a very scary and disorienting experience.
I like to approach the idea from a kind of xenofiction mindset. I've only seen a few fics that have taken that route, and I'd love to see it explored that way more often.

I guess it's even more jarring if you're coming from someplace where Pokemon as a concept doesn't even exist. 'Cause man, these critters are weird. Knowing the franchise, I'd just be thankful I didn't turn into a Jigglypuff or something. I don't want my body to also be my face.
I had a much more lighthearted PMD Tumblr take awhile back: "The Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games always leave out the part where the main character has to resist the urge to pet everyone they come into contact with."

Hahaha yeah, it'd be very hard to not want to snuggle like, half of the PMD populace.
Someone over on DA made a similar comment to your first part: For someone coming into this with zero context, it'd be almost maddening. Everything is vaguely familiar but also completely alien, and the creatures making up the world don't seem to follow any rhyme or reason. This person looks like a dog or a cat, but this person looks like boulder or a set of keys on a keyring. Coming from our world where you can at least reason out how everything fits together, it would be taxing on your brain - doubly so for someone like Benji, who is very logical minded.
