That was actually my thought when I first saw the finished sketch, but then I thought that the Elora in my head-cannon probably wouldn't do something like that for several reasons. But, you never know, it's a good idea and I could always change my mind, appreciate your comments as always.
The darkness would make it difficult to defend themselves or see the identity of their captors. Perhaps it was a group of six girls, who, when they attacked, two held Ember to the ground and gagged her, while the other four attacked Cynder, knowing the purple dragon was more difficult to defeat, so they focused more effort on Cynder.
