Night of the ReavingArcua Were they so certain
The Castle Stood
At the gates! At the walls! At the behest of your king!
Archers round, lancers ready.
The foot-soldiers of the land
crowd
to prove the righteousness of the sword.
One possibility after another
Dragons of fire, of ice, toxins, winds, earth…
…things to be conquered, to triumph over. No more.
Mere anticipations.
They’ve yet to see their mortal fears. But they’ve been told it’s coming.
Anticipation. That’s all it needed.
The soldiers levied their arms against the terrible beast
And proved themselves
A greater predator.
That’s the story they tell themselves.
They are as the metal that breaks against wood.
If only they knew
How High That Pyramid Goes
