Nikkos Maru and Linus Mills are captured and tortured by the enemy. To avoid spoilers for those reading IMPERIUM LUPII I'm not being specific.
For the uninitiated, they're bound with Howler-wire, which is one of the few materials strong enough to hold Howlers and their equivalent super-soldier counterparts from other races. It's a thick wire, rather than friable rope.
(This version has Nikkos in his typical clothing of a watch cap and longline T-shirt, and linus with boots on, all of which are removed in the book.)
