It was a feeling of excitement that ran through Ion as he took his position on one of the runic alters on either side of the arena, as his first magus duel was about to commence, an event that was usually reserved for second years and up. While only a first year in the Guild Sect, Ion's prior knowledge of Psynergy and skills in using it, he was bumped up to second year classes despite being a first year as those who meet those requirements usually are as the first year classes would waste the potential of the students who do have the prior knowledge, though those first year seconders as usually forbidden from taking part in the Magus Duels as they are still considered too young for them. At first Ion was no exception, even with the protests from himself and that of his classmates, some of who had friendly rivalries with the younger Fledgling Magus but those protest went unanswered until two other events happened that changed the minds of the instructors and the overseeing Sage Fenrir who had taken a liking to Ion and his progress along the path of the Magus. The first event was the midterm exam, where Ion displayed incredible skill and composure utilizing a spelldeck to cast more advance versions of the elements he as adept to and even elements he was not, something that majority of magus can't do even with the aid of a spelldeck, which in itself is an advance weapon for a magus that only a few are ever able to master. That someone so young could utilize a spelldeck was a rarity in itself, then in the days after Ion combining that with his swordsmanship skills at the bequest of Sage Fenrir to bring out his full potential, Ion was now on his way of truly becoming a gifted Spellsword. This raised the bar in Sage Fenrir's mind that Ion could handle himself in the second term Magus Duels even though he was someone of a younger stature then the other competitors though some other instructors were still hesitant until an unlikely bond Ion formed in the weeks ahead.
In the White Magus path of the Spellcrafter Guild Sect, there were these Mythical Creature pets that the students were tasked to take care of and would help along with their studies, those of the Black Magus path like Ion, usually never had any interactions with these pets as their core study classes never really involved the use of Mythical Creatures, especially those in their early stages. In this year's batch though there was one Mythical Creature that was becoming a bit of a problem, a little rascal that didn't seam to behave or take commands from anyone, causing mischief and mayhem for the ones responsible taking care of them, something that was usually unheard of for these types of Mythical Creatures and the news of this particular one spread throughout the second year common study. Intrigued, Ion asked one of his White Magus friends he made in the common study to bring him over to see the mythical creatures, as he had an interest in them when he learned of their existence and the misfit one seamed the most curious on Ion's mind as he fit the profile greatly of the curious fox. She reluctantly agreed to bring him to them, sneaking in to not get in trouble for bringing a Black Magus to these pats of the White Magus Guild Hall and from the moment Ion and that one rascal creature locked eyes, something within that creature seamed to shift and a unlikely small bond seamed to form. The creature, which Ion eventually dubbed with the name Familiar, would mellow out and behave when around Ion's presence, to the point that the White Magus instructors would request Ion to come by every so often so he could keep in touch with his little creature friend and give them a break from having to deal with the little rascal who would still cause trouble for anyone else. The bond even deepened to the point that Familiar choose Ion as his master and even though he was on the Black Magus study path, Ion was able to get assigned the White Magus pet and even allowed to bring him to the classes when required, this event is what lead to the rest of Ion's instructors that he was a Magus of a special case and what finally allowed him to compete in the upcoming Magus Duels.
Now standing on the runic alter on his side of the dueling arena, Ion looks around at the many spectators that had gathered to watch the event and the feeling of excitement turned into a small bit of nervousness. "It is no different then the midterm exam and the weekend adventures I have with Flint and Zephyr" Ion though to himself as he clenched his staff in hand, "ok a bit different, first actual anthro opponents and I do have to make use of this staff as per the requirements though I am getting fairly adept with it" Ion thought on as the second year Magus Duels had to be fought with the fledgling Magus' newly fashioned staves. "Though at least I am still allowed to use my sword and spelldeck if desired" Ion continue thinking as Sage Fenrir did make sure Ion would be able to utilize all his tools for his version of a Magus, to even the playing field with his age against the others as well as to bring out his full potential, "I just got to mix and match up my gameplay." As both Magus' were in position, the alters began to light up, with each fledgling casting their own custom runes on the tri-slates to help aid their side of the battlefield, as Ion was getting into position for the match to begin, a familiar voice could be heard shouting and a "familiar" creature was seen running towards his direction. "Get back here you dam pest" the voice of Sage Fenrir could be hard as Ion's Mythical creature pet Familiar ran up onto his alter as Ion knelt down to meet him. "Hey there buddy, nice to see you but you have to go back with the others ok" Ion said as Familiar just look at him puzzled as Sage Fenrir came into view but made sure to to fully approach the dueling alter as the runes had been cast. "Sorry Ion, he kind of got away but he does need to get off the battlefield before the match stats and soon" Sage Fenrir said as Ion motioned to Familiar to go with the sage but he didn't want to move, like he was being somewhat protective. "What's wrong? There is nothing to worry about, this is all commonplace, now go with Fenrir so I can begin my match" Ion said as he tried to push Familiar to wards the direction of Sage Fenrir but again he would move, "maybe if I do the prelude show of force with he here will calm him down, Sage, would that be ok?" Ion asked as Sage Fenrir shrugged, "I don't see why it wouldn't be but as long as he is gone before the match begins or there will be issues on your end" he answered. Ion then cracked a smile before snapping his fingers making on of his spelldeck cards appear floating above his hand, he then slammed down the end of his staff into the ground as lightning shot down towards him, as he summoned his spectral daggers around his alter, Ion's opponent did his own show of force as the match was now set to begin. "See I can handle myself, now go with Fenrir so I don't get in trouble ok" Ion said as he glanced down towards Familiar who didn't seam to want to move but then relented as Ion glanced at him with a more decisive look as Familiar went back towards Sage Fenrir and jumped onto his shoulder as he quickly exited the battlefield so Ion's match could begin, taking a seat as a spectator as Familiar watched on from atop his shoulder as a feeling inside it still ate at him deeply.....
