I'm very pleased at how sharp I've been able to get shots with the Meade scope. It's touchy as hell of course, needs a tune-up, what can I say, it's a beast. With the Pentax K-x however, you can hit this little LV button which puts things on screen, then you hit the info button a few times which zooms it in, and then you can try to tighten it right up. Here's the main reason I posted this pic... So that I could toss in a link to this YouTube vid of the young-un in the nest, also taken with the Meade. Sweet!

I guess that's relative. This ain't no autofocus lens here, it's a big tube on a tripod, the tree is swaying, and the focus moves by thin whispers and light touches. Yeah, I'd LOVE to have a 1200mm lens that's as sharp as my 200mm, but you'd be into the high four-figures for a toy like that. Check the video out, and keep in mind that this is a huge nest way up in a tree and I'm a ways back.
On the other hand... I DO expect to get nice sharp pics from my b-day toy that just arrived yesterday, this nice little 500mm reflector. So far, very nice, very LIGHT!

Oh unquestionably. I know what I got, but the 500 I had was a loaner. I'll take it for what it is and I should have enough room so to speak to sharpen while downsizing a bit (know any good filters for that?). Getting the Tamron was a bit of a fluke actually, a fluke of great price and the rarity of myself having a lump sum big enough to cover even that (beans and rice mon, beans and rice). On the plus side, it's LIGHT!! On the down side, and a bit peeved at this, the focus is far too sensitive and takes such a light touch that anything will throw it off focus once you've zeroed in. At least with the full-sized scope you're tweaking an off to the side screw with a bit of resistance. We'll just have to wait and see where it fits in I guess, and if it don't, I won't take too much of a loss reselling it.
