I can't really explain the title I chose without ruining a good portion of the upcoming storyline, but I'm sure the more canny amongst you can infer things.
The occasional emotionally charged scene like this one is what I do the comic thing for, ultimately. Call me a drama whore if you want to. Call it cheesy. I do love me some drama. I can't seem to make a character without severely 'damaging' them. Greek tragedies ARE my favorite genre.
Oh, and Red Lantern is a collaborative comic with Alectorfencer, who generally does the backgrounds, but in this case I actually drew 'dem flowers. And 'dat wall. But almost all the other backgrounds in the comic are hers.

Lovely image. Amon is pretty as always, and I love the detail in the flower (as well as the selective lack of detail in the rest of them; I think that that effect is underrated).
The way he is looking at the flower, and the title, imply to me that they use opium to help keep the slaves in check, or something of that nature. Seems like something they would do. But I might be reading too far into it (or too little). Just my thoughts....

I was thinking of the tethered/hooked question on page 42 and definitely on 43 with Amon's reaction. Seemed like a junkie kind of a reaction
Awesome and impressive piece of art. You are very skilled at capturing the emotions and conveying them to the viewer.
In the scattered way my mind works, the first thing to pop into my head when I saw this was a line from the song Southampton Dock by Pink Floyd "Still the dark stain spreads between their shoulder blades, a mute reminder of the poppy fields and graves"
Kind of random I know.

Oh Amon, I just want to run away with you from that awful island. ...somewhere those damned hyenas can't ever find you again.
...I think that's why your art is so amazing, Rukis: you really capture the pain and the sorrow of human drama. Though he's only a fictional character, you'd swear his story was real as though you'd lived through it yourself...

I still think one of the best things from this comic series you do is the concept behind how the collars are made. All the slave collars I've seen are too simple, easy to remove, or make no sense as to how they are applied. You seem to have come up with a way to make them both permanent and explainable.
...I'm not sure if that's a good thing to be thinking so deeply about, but...yeah. There it is.

Oh, I can understand the sentiment of 'damaging' your characters. Damaging them is what makes them interesting, the tortured soul tells the best stories. I can hardly create a major character without giving them some manner of past hell to live through. Dead lovers, dead family, physical and emotional trauma, ostracization, serious misfortune, self-contained demons. You know, all in a writer's work. Not like we're writing "Fluffy pink bunnies under a rainbow eating candy".
