Darkhans Archlich form isnt really undead. at least not in the same sense as Dungeons and Dragons puts it. his state of being is sort of between life and death but is not dying, rotting or decomposed, Darkhan was stillborn, out of the 9 dragon gods his egg did not so much hatch as it was cracked open. and what spilled out was, a lifeless form.
Ohanin unable to bare the dispair of a dead child. gave that body life. granting it the soul is was meant to be. and thus came out Darkahn.
yes ill admit his apperance may look evil. but he is in fact True Neutral, may also be considerd Lawful Neutral in fact because he plays the role of Judge in the afterlife.
Within the Iorn City Darkahn now resides as the Keeper of souls who go to that place to be punished. or rather. where they are kept until they realize they no longer need punish themselves. see everyone in the iorn city is held there not against their wills, but because they themselves put themselves there.
there are those however whos crimes in life are so heinouse they deserve punishment. but only as a purification process. Souls arrive to Darkahn in the form of Lanterns, they are the lights inside that sparks imagination. each lantern is a manifestation of that souls life force and what they were, the idea is to someday shed those preconceptions and begin anew. by purgeing oneself of guilt and faceing ones sins and transgressions. one can then step throguh the 9th gate and find a new life.
Darkahn is reponsable for the Iron Lich. whos job it is to monoture all souls that come throught the iorn city and help those who can. while at the same time, finding their own path to redemption.
He is the patron deity of the Darkonian people. dragonborn who pay omage to Darkahn and are true practitioners of Divine Necromancy (nothing you would find in the book of vile darkness. just to give you some idea)
perhaps someday ill run a game in the iorn city. that would be intresting.
