This character was part of an art trade with a friend on Tumblr. We each made a Wings of Fire OC for each other and they made me this Sandwing who they described as so: "I’d say he works in the sandwing palace!! Maybe some sort of craftsman"
I decided to name him Uromastyx after a type of Spiny-tailed desert Lizard.
Uromastyx is from a family of jewelers who lived in the Sandwing Palace and responsible for making much of the Regalia worn by the Sandwing Queens...however during the war of Sandwing succession they were not considered a necessary asset to Queen Burn. They could have gotten better business by siding with Blaze, but Uromastyx's family did not believe Blaze would last long in this conflict and did not want to be executed for treason when Blaze eventually lost. They stayed on the side of Queen Burn and tried to keep their heads low as to not draw the terrifying Queen's attention. With their business being considered superfluous under their new queen they took up other roles as servants in the palace trying to stay out of being recruited as soldiers. At the time Burn took over, Uromastyx was too young to be a soldier but 20 years had gone by and he wanted to give Burn no indication that he was suited for being a soldier not that it would mean much if Burn decided to throw him into War anyway.
He eagerly waited for any time Burn was away on the Battlefield to practice his family's craft wherever he could taking pride in his family history as artists and crafts dragons. He started as a young dragonet carving stones, then moving on to collecting scraps he could savage from broken armor, and then as a teenager taking commissions to make some extra treasure by fixing or modifying jewelry brought to him by the soldiers.
Uromastyx loved the stories he had heard of the Dragonets of Destiny and like to depicting scenes of what he imagined they would be doing into his craftwork, hoping that Burn who had no interest in art wouldn't pick up on the subtle meaning behind the images. While Burn had no clue, one of her loyal generals once saw a piece of jewelry he had made and on a soldier and interrogated them over where it came from. The solider gave away Uromastyx to General Sandstorm and Sandstorm responded by trashing Uromastyx's workshop and spilling acid he had been using to clean copper on his shoulder. Uromastyx was briefly imprisoned but not long after General Sandstorm dropped dead during the Outclaw invasion on Palace to Rescue Sunny and never got to report Uromastyx's treason to Queen Burn. Uromastyx would later be released by Queen Thorn and his family was allowed to openly practice and sell their craft again, and is frequently busy now with Princess Blaze returned to the Palace.
Uromastyx personally disagrees with Blaze in matters of taste (she doesn't care about the details on the jewelry, only that its shiny and sparkle) but she is a paying customer and there is no accounting for a customer's tastes, though sometimes he wishes he could openly argue with this silly dragoness. He has started expressing his grievance in his work...which ironically Blaze loved and bought from him, completely misunderstanding that the depiction of herself was meant to be satirical.
