Nabbed a photo of my SE and SE/30 side by side. On the Left is the Mac SE which is running System 6.0.8 and the SE/30 is on the right running System 7.5.3. I was copying over the SE/30s system folder via local talk to the SE to have it dual-booting 6.0.8 and 7.5.3. This I would later come to regret since 1MB of RAM is not enough to boot 7.5.3, and I can't get it to boot 6.0.8 So I'm presently making a new boot disk for the SE, which unhelpfully is extremely pernickerty with 800k Floppies.

I grew up using Old Macs and the SE/30 on the right was my first computer I ever had. It was given to me when I was five and I've been using it ever since. It's been a fantastic little runner and still goes strong.
There are tones of abandonware sites that have gigabytes of software for these old Machines, Including some timeless classic games. Plus they're also fun to tinker around with.

The SE already has a SuperDrive in it (upgraded it the other day, since the original drive had rusted through and the mechanism was jammed), but since I have yet to find SE FDHD ROMs It treats it as a very fussy 800K drive.
Normally I try and push Macs to the latest operating system they'll run, I.e. Powerbook 520 running OS 8.1, PB 3400c running 9.2 (using OS9Helper) and the SE/30 on 7.5.3. That and I'm not fond of System 6, It was before my time, I started using Macs when 7.0 the current system, I'd only started using 6 when I got a Mac Plus a few years back, and it's kinda felt kinda weird. I might try and find some RAM to at least push the SE to 7.0.
Aha yes LocalTalk is very slow, but I have yet to see any Ethernet PDS cards, and with the PB520 acting as a LocalTalk to Ethernet Bridge, it can connect to IRC (which is handy).

A few years back the machines used to be dirt cheap, but looking around now their value is starting to go up quite significantly. I've seen some of the old 68k (1992-5) Powerbooks go for £100+, while CRT iMacs (1998-2000) are going for £20-40. Seems that the all the Mac II (inc. IIsi, IIci etc) are practically non existent on the for sale ads these days!
I have two running as clocks and two that were converted into scribblers...

Lemme know if you want a floppy. :)

Nope. I programed it with Macromind Director. Neither AfterDark nor Hypercard allowed me to do what I wanted to. Mostly, I wanted a self-standing application that runs full screen. I've seen other solutions for clocks, but none of them display Chicago at 144pt -- which as you know is the purest of all Mac fonts. ;)
The other benefit to making it a self-standing application is that I can legally distribute it.
