BASTEMON BARTER
Jason really wished he could have more time to game these days.
He did slip in a session here and there, one hour or two on occasion and yet it was never enough. That old-school RPG had been on his mind quite a bit as while it did have a slow start, it possessed charm up the wazoo. There was a certain confidence to it, a presentation which made it memorable as even though the writing wasn't all that great and the battles weren't very innovative, it was comfort food in the form of electronic entertainment. He discussed it with his pals who had indeed recommended him this title, telling them where he was though one thing he kept to himself, even though anyone playing it would probably like it too.
That unforeseen enemy, Bastemon.
Her sprite work, her dialogue, her battle theme had been absolute bangers, a belly dancer cat woman of splendid style. The option to just let her go flew past him as he recalled, just enjoying her animation and how things went. Too much work had been obviously put into her for this character to be a throwaway character, a one-off. At least he dearly hoped so because she hit so many of his buttons. Long crimson hair, facial veil, the pantaloons, the nice hips and bust, the bare stomach, the ton of jewelry...a true Arabian Nights delight. Yet as he progressed did he dearly hope to see her, if only to see where her story would go...and if she'd maybe become a party member.
Right now, his Hero was level 21, his grinding earlier having paid off though right now he slacked on that approach as he wanted to advance the narrative, to discover new areas and quests. Still without party members, he did struggle on occasion yet his gear was up to date, his spells varied and he had enough experience as a gamer to know what to do and not to do. He was an old hand at this as he moved to a new town called Felinsgrad did he go and check up the shops, quest boards and what-not to continue ahead in this game. Armorers, weaponsmiths, spell scribes, alchemist huts and what-not were his go-to destinations, with familiar icons to tell the player which was which, yet as he moved through the town did he see a small tent with a symbol he didn't recognize. A quest? Maybe a fortune teller to help him should he be lost? It was worth taking a chance as he went there and then there she was...Bastemon.
“Oh my, it's the cute hero again~” her dialogue box popped up as the shop screen was there, complete with options to buy, sell and leave. She took half the screen for herself, half-lounging on the counter behind her tent as the décor was that of an exotic locale, with oil lamps, a hookah, velvet cushions and the like. Even her shop music was different, with low yet sultry strings as if she was tantalizing the player into buying something from her. A part of him was a bit saddened that she wasn't a party member...but it was still quite satisfying to witness her again in all her high-pixelated glory. “I must thank you for giving me a chance and hearing me out~”
This was a remix of her battle theme, albeit slower and more even-paced. It awakened something within Jason as some kind of inner peace and warmth began to softly pervade him. She was an ally, an important character if she was meant to return to the forefront. Maybe she did have some excellent items on sale and that this was a result of sparing her...perhaps even she could indeed join his quest down the line if he kept on making the right decisions. Her animation was still top-notch, far too good when compared to the rest of the game as her sprite went on to take something from behind the counter now. Maybe a reward from not harming her and letting her proceed to be a shopkeeper?
“I must show you a special something which I think you'll like~” her sprite said, a wink accompanying this little tease as one of her heavily-clawed hand came back up with a pendant, a golden chainlet upon which was attached a gemstone of burgundy, pale in its shade; the same tone as her eyes in fact. Maybe an accessory that would prove to be good? Bonus to strength or luck? Yet as she went on to showcase it, her exquisite animation continued as she began to swing it back and forth, the little phantom-like after images actually rendered in this pixel style. It was lovely and certainly intriguing. And a bit fascinating to boot. “I actually found this in the same cave we first met. It's a precious trinket to me...”
How they managed to put in after-effects so smooth, to turn the back-and-forth into an effect so fluid was mind-blowing. There was even the light sparkle and sheen, how the flicker of the nearby candles reflected upon the gemstone. A true work of art as Jason went on to really focus on it, again opting to let her dialogue keep on going without choosing to skip any of it. Shopkeepers usually had the same kind of chatter or banter, making it a reflex to just ignore it rapidly with many presses of a button, but it would just feel wrong given how invested he was in Bastemon. Even the half of the screen which was her counter started to slide down a little, paving the way for more of the sexy cat girl.
“It's pretty, isn't it? I see we think alike in how we appreciate it, how it moves...have you noticed how it just reflect and refract light so, so well~?” Bastemon added, standing tall behind her counter as she swung this pendant before her chest and midriff, in-between two parts that Jason certainly would never share aloud that he enjoyed seeing. The pendulum motion was kept ongoing, the dazzle upon the gemstone certainly even more intricate now as yet again she subtly began to get even more detailed, almost as if she were changing art style to be even better-defined, she and her swinging trinket. “I just can't help but swing it back and forth...back and forth...back and forth...”
Erdrick is now hypnotized.
Once again did Jason miss out this cue in the upper-left corner of the screen, for Bastemon simply held his focus effortlessly. The small toothy smile behind her facial veil, amused and a bit mischievous yet not without grace and allure...the way she even wobbled her chest softly behind the pendant, how she took deep breaths which made her stomach rise and fall. Such exquisite attention to detail left Jason positively mesmerized as he just couldn't contend with how such a wondrous creation as Bastemon had been kept a secret from him, from the whole gaming world.
“You like watching it, uh? I am the same, as it just brings me such comfort and peace, such tranquility~” Bastemon explained, her arm extending slightly towards the screen, the pseudo-3D effect being astonishing as Jason unwittingly vaulted forward to look at it closer. The repetitive pattern was indeed a touch reassuring, very easy to follow even with the ghost-images and the after-effects. The music even became a little lower in its volume, perceptible yet much more as background noise than anything else. “Have you noticed it's the same colors as my eyes? Just observing that makes me feel so happy and safe while looking at it. I'm sure you're feeling the exact same way~”
Erdrick is now subservient.
One more cue Jason missed as he couldn't possibly know what was going on with his character, not when he himself was deeply appreciating Bastemon and her new little scene. It did make him feel happy that she was here, showing him her precious little treasure, dangling it in front of him. It was almost intimate as the music coupled with the gemstone just made things feel so...right. She was the best character in this game and by far from what he had observed.
“It's almost like my dancing in a way. You must remember it, how my hips swayed back and forth...back and forth...back and forth...” Bastemon continues and once more Jason starts to imagine how she sounds like. A slight accent, deep yet sultry, a touch teasing even. It makes his own thoughts melt a bit as he most certainly recall her performance, inhabiting his dreams continuously for the past week. The pendant is indeed much like this, the connection between both getting stronger while he just sways a little in place, the glimmer and glow of the gemstone all the more enticing. “Just like my belly dance, I bet it makes you feel so relaxed, so open-minded, so eager to be friendly with me~”
Erdrick will now obey his mistress.
That he did. Jason really wished that she was more present in the game as it was only her second scene and yet already it wasn't enough. He needed more, craved it even. He missed the cue anew, yet truly it was the last thing on his mind as vivid recalls of this bedlah babe swinging her stuff superposed with her pendant, creating euphoria which left him in awe, paralyzed with a certain form of bliss he never knew could be possible.
“If you need any advices and suggestions, any directions at all from me...do feel free to come whenever~” Bastemon offered, though the pulsation on the screen made it seem like this wasn't so much as a possibility more than an important pathway. He should seek her out, see where he should go from her own counsel. “Anyone with such a pretty pendant cannot be wrong, right? You know I'd never steer you wrong~”
With that she put it around her neck, wearing the pendant as the gemstone rested just above her lovely chest. It was a wondrous sight, a most mesmerizing vision as Jason's gaze was just so, so close to the screen now. Illusory warmth and softness invaded his senses as eventually did the screen flicker, creating some kind of snapping sound as the constant zoom-in effect was gone as if it had never been used in the first place. The shopkeep screen was back, half of the screen used by Bastemon and the rest with her options. The only difference was that she wore a most lovely and intricate gemstone pendant.
“Now to business. I'm trying to build a dance parlor in this little town and I'd be most grateful for any business you could send my way~” Bastemon said, a little wink as she vaulted over, the pendant still glowing slightly. Jason could only picture what kind of parlor she was talking about and once more did he wander into dreamlike scenarios of watching her perform. Maybe this was her sidequest, to assist the construction of her dream as he knew now what he needed to do. He browsed and bought absolutely everything in her inventory, whether it was useful or not as now he was immersed and invested in her plotline. He wanted to see more...and he'd do anything for that.
Anything for more Bastemon.
