No, you haven’t. Look away. Don’t bother him. He’s beyond your league.
Unlike you, sacrifice is the norm for him everyday. He misses out on his family: kids, grandkids… friends, hobbies, events- even birthdays.
Sometimes, he may be gone for longer. Days. Weeks. Maybe even a few months if the world needs help somewhere. They don’t even have to ask him- he’ll say yes in a heartbeat if it means saving one more person—parent, grandparent, child—no matter the age unconditionally.
One day… maybe he won’t even make it home anymore.
What do you do? What liberty does he sacrifice so you don’t have to?
