To Kate the gift of magic is more a curse. When she was a child her father forbade her from practicing her magic and when he caught her showing off for Kate's childhood love her father sent her away to the temples. Kate shared the same species as the Goddess of Rebirth Kelahiran, who the moon Kela was named after. The endless cycles of the moon signified the rebirth that the Goddess presides over, and to the priests of the temple Kate's lunar magic was an affront to the Goddess.

One evening, while locked in a study as punishment, the full moon of Kela shone bright through the window. Kate's magic flared to life after so many years of being smothered by the priests. This was her chance. Maybe her only chance. She screamed with the pent of rage of a childhood stolen, the foundations shattered, and Kate ran. Now Kate is free to make her own path, to practice her magic as she sees fit.
