Jack fought in WWI and as a result he suffers from shell shock/PTSD. Having one of his dark moments, Jack hides in an alley at night, struggling to get a hold of his emotions. Balto, the ever kind-hearted wolfdog, comes and rests his head on Jack's lap as a way to comfort him.
