Heh, don't hate on yourself too much, everyone starts small. Just focus on form, and push hard. The only way to get better at push-ups is to do push-ups :P
Also I find cardiovascular health to be more long-term important than strength training. Push-ups won't save your ass from zombies, but running will ;) Running's a bit of a pain though, it's hard to start, but it's worth it when you do a good run. thankfully humanity has seen fit to organize residential areas into neat squares which make for nice distance markers :3 Start with a lap or two around your block at a self paced jog. Slowly increase distance and/or speed :3
Also music helps, at least for me. Keeps my pace steady and uniform, gets my whole body moving at a steady tempo.
Just a few pointers from someone also desperately trying to get fit, although mine is for career retention purposes XD

It's true.
I'm actually doing a mixture of a lot of things, there's a decent amount of pushups, situps, pullups, as well as some weights, a ton of stretches, several weapons kata, walking interspersed with jogging, biking, and the workout routine called "Insanity" which is pretty cardio heavy. I can always stand to do more, but there's only so much time in the day.
I would use music but jogging makes my discman skip. :x

I used to. Actually, before I figured out the gluten thing, I would get really bad headaches that were exacerbated by a lot (most?) exercises. But maybe especially anything like a pushup where my head had to be down. That's better now though, and I think I'm pretty okay at them now. Wish I felt like I was getting anywhere with it, though.
I'm so glad that you discovered your gluten allergy! As far as the results, it just takes time Mr. Badger :o I promise that if you've increased your activity level while also eating healthier, you're guaranteed to see changes. Often, they creep up on you without notice, and suddenly one day you're like "Heeey, these pants sure fit better!" or "Hmm, did I have that muscle before?" xD
