I look at this, and in the back of my head is a little voice saying, "Oh Lord, the pool skimmer is going to be a mess!" I really can't help it! It's how my brain works. But to cope, I've often wondered what sort of industry would build up around cleaning?
I have one kitty. She is only 7.5lbs, and yet she sheds enough fur to turn my furniture white over the course of a month or two. My vacuum cleaner's contents is 80% fur, 10% dust and 10% other. I can only imagine how much fur and dander would be shed by just one 6' tall, 220# anthro with a big, poofy tail. What about thousands? Hundreds of thousands?
Millions?
What sorts of industries would arise from that sort of material? Would it be considered waste, or a resource? How would it affect industry? We already know that dust can be an extremely dangerous problem in the sugar, flour and sawmill industries, but what about fur? We already know it collects in hidden spaces of our homes, what happens when it gets inside a 480 volt, 3-phase, 200 amp industrial motor?
If it's a resource, who gets to collect it, and how? What happens to it? How is it cleaned? What do you make with it, and why? Are there cultural practices involved, or taboos? (Skunk Butt Rug anyone?"
If it's a waste product, then it's going to make a lot of people very wealthy. Just look at what happens with trash collection in our world: “Where’s there’s muck there’s brass” And whenever money is involved, you can bet your sweet bippy that organized crime is going to be involved!
So many avenues to explore!
