This was originally supposed to be a different piece a little over a year ago but I lost confidence in tackling that and left it unfinished in places (like within sketchbooks or on piles of paper) to annoy me into eventually finishing it somehow. Ended up doing that a little while ago and making this /<3<\
It's very far from what I originally envisioned but I'm still pretty new to painting so I have to afford myself the time to learn adequately.
Done with acrylic + acrylic marker on watercolour paper.

I think that the way it turned out wound up being quite nice! Something about the title + the smallness of the little pyukumuku compared to the scale of its environment, coupled with its blank little expressionless face, is very striking. Haven't we all felt like that, sometimes--adrift far from where we belong, with a long hard road to get back to what is easy and comfortable and familiar?
I'm glad you finished it up rather than leaving it incomplete! Learning a new medium is quite hard and results in a lot of "this isn't turning out like I envisioned" but I think it's worth powering through even when it's not going well--if only so that you can have something to compare you future works to and see how far you've come. ^^

Thank you both for your thoughts on the piece and your kind words, out of what I've been trying I have been finding acrylic somewhat the most challenging to learn (honestly the biggest hurdle for me is free time to sit down and do it) π
I have been enjoying it when I have time for it, right now I've been focusing more on just practising mixing colours to get it down more to memory since I have kind of a hard time figuring it out without guides (most digital options for helping with colour mixing want you to pay a subscription to use them regularly so I just bought a book instead and have been consulting that and using my own guesswork to do the rest) /<3<\
