When Yondards spawn, they are typically in a vulnerable state, but within short distance of a living area of other Yondards. They need time to gain self awareness, but eventually gains it and, ideally, grow up.
But exceptions happen. The surviving humans of a Yondard attack in a Yondard Examination Site would see one, as one spawned in such a way to incorporate an unfinished android into its body. Given the on-edge nature of the humans (as well as being trapped down there, since the previous attack destroyed their way to return to the surface), her appearance caused panic as they attempted to destroy her. And given her limited mental faculties there was little for her to do but to eventually defend herself.
The last one went down easily enough, especially with her abilities, but this creature had spoted a computer, running under limited emergency power. It was another failed attempt to call for help, but the creature decided to explore what was on the computer, not questioning how she knew how. Various files, some she couldn't access, some she could, including various video diary entries done by the woman she just killed.
Almost in a trance, she replayed the videos and hearing her name.
"Dr. Farah Mertens"
Driven by her budding sentience, she repeated 'Mertens' over and over, each time ensuring she said the name 'correctly' in not just pronounciation, but the voice itself.
"Mertens. I am... Mertens."
