The only downsides would be the animation(which makes Hanna-Barbera look like Studio Ghibli) and the line deliveries sometimes feel stilted and forced. Other than that, the series really seems to take advantage of the animation medium in showing more bizarre alien life and worlds, while the overall writing DEFINITELY feels like classic Trek(I say as a guy who has the UN-edited version of Star Trek: TOS saved on his backup memory drive).
