After a while I've finally got my current sona's ref done! A very harsh departure from my previous but very warranted. Galax is not gone, instead they're now a friend of Vulpi's.

In IFW lore inanimate objects come alive with care and an object called an Anima, basically a soul container that can be broken but also can reformed with a strong enough soul contained inside. Vulpi is one of these "emotional feeders" who can have their nutritional needs met by normal food but also via absorbing the emotional energy of other people.
