Coming around to the last of the stuff, 2 new species being added which are mostly finished but just need some stuff finalized for them. For now I dont have a name for the sneks but i can drop some biology info.
Biology
— are a species of snake-like reptiles native to the planet —. They lie at 12ft long and have a somewhat thick layer of fur which helps keep them warm which is assisted by an active endothermic metabolism.
A unique adaptation originally evolved as a form of self defense is the ability to project fire from their mouths using an odorless gas made as a byproduct from overactive bacteria within their gut. The gas is typically stored in bladders in their belly and acts as a reserve tank while the gas is sent to a pair of smaller ones in their cheeks. To prevent bloating however the gas is periodically expelled without being set ablaze as silly squeak-like burps, and sometimes the flame is utilized to aid in reinforcing their tunnels by thawing the exposed snow a slight bit to allow it to refreeze again. To ignite the gas they use a small chemical ignition source from highly modified salivary glands and can project a jet of flame up to 5ft away in a very quick burst to avoid damaging themselves. For protection against their own flames, — fur is incredibly fire resistant and thick enough to prevent serious burns to their skin and scales from short exposure.
The — are unfortunately almost fully colorblind, seeing the world around them in white, grey, and blue but can make out gradients and fine details very well. To help protect against glare from light reflecting off of snow and ice, the — have a third eyelid that covers their eyes. To aid in hunting the — have a pair of spots on the top of their heads which detects nearby heat sources, letting them easily locate other individuals inside their tunnels as well as prey that may be above them.
Similar to mammals, females — give birth to live young and can have up to 4 pups in a litter. To help protect their pups from the elements, they are stored in a pair of pockets on the sides of the mother which can hold two each.
