The scorpion traps were inspired by funnel crawfish traps.
Celtara helped me come up with ideas for them.
By the end of the story, there’s a third disaster on the way. The idea I had for a triad of consecutive, escalating threats was inspired by Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Pit and the Pendulum”.
