Chomby spent his day trying to do what Sarge suggested to him. The werewolf mentioned something about "the little things being the things we remembered". Chomby didn't fully understand that, but since he had the freedom to go where he wanted, he took the time to enjoy himself. A nice, cloudy day with a small trickle of rain seemed to be all he needed to feel happy.
The air smelled fresh enough for him to take a deep breath. It was invigorating. He almost felt himself smile, too. He noticed a small puddle on the sidewalk. The ripples on its surface clouded what would have been a pale, mirror image of himself. But he could see what he looked like. Maybe his mouth had creases on it now. Maybe his tail was segmented like a periscope.... But what mattered was he was himself.
He chuckled and clutched his umbrella. Making sure no one was around, he stomped a foot into the puddle and let the water splash over him.
"Someone seems happy," a disgruntled voice said from nearby.
Chomby stared down at the reflection for a moment longer before turning to the voice. He noticed someone was sitting on a nearby bench. He also noticed their left pant leg was wet. It took him a moment to realize what had happened.
"Oh, gosh, I'm so sorry!" Chomby felt himself run hot with embarrassment. "I didn't mean to, uh... uh... splash you. I was just..."
The person tilted their head to the side.
"I was just..." Chomby took a deep breath and looked back at the puddle. "A lot's happened. Can't exactly tell you what's happened, but, for once in a long while, I've felt happy. Sorry I splashed you, and sorry for stumbling over my words."
The person sighed and shook their head. They smiled. "Well, it's just a wet pant leg. Should've expected it myself. Carry on."
Chomby looked them up and down for another moment. He then nodded. "Thank you." He then turned around and continued his enjoyment of a subtly-rainy day.
