sENFtember Day 5!
Strip Game!
Sometimes ENF is caused by accident or by malice. And sometimes ENF is the agreed upon stakes of a wager or game. Maybe some friends having some harmless but embarrassing goofs. Or maybe an attempt to embarrass an enemy.
Strip Games are the cousin to the noble dare, a theme coming up nearer the end of the month!
And when random number generation generated Leona’s name, I knew it would be the sci-fi space pirate of the mouse. I almost did just a strip game between her and her crew. But then I thought: Chumbleys. Trying to win something from those daring space archeologists with dignity on the line!
Then I got so excited about the idea that I went overboard and wrote 9 pages instead of my usual 2 or 3. That happens when there are so many characters involved. Leona is still the main character. It’s her loss of clothes that caps the story off. And her smart brain came up with a plan for cheating and a way to win even while losing.
Leona’s space pirates are kind of goobers. This isn’t even the first story that ended with them doing a naked walk of shame back to their ship. Maybe they raid ships carrying clothes, to stock back up.
The Chumbleys hadn’t appeared in person in the sci-fi setting yet. My thought for them is that they’re species swapped in the sci-fi universe. Eleanor is a wolf instead of a dog, Jonas is a dog instead of a wolf. And they’re both archeologists, not just Jonas.
Things wound up a little more crude in this story mostly because of Sadie. But with pirates it feels appropriate.
