Yesterday, I laid on the ground outside looking at the sky while listening to Patricia Taxxon's "Ten Skies", a great ambient album made to sync with James Benning's 2004 experimental minimalist film of the same name - ten shots of different skies, lasting roughly 10 minutes each and featuring some natural sounds. The listening conditions were basically perfect: a warm sunny day with a clear sky, and not that much disruptive background noise. I was really excited, it was something I had been looking forward to for the whole summer - a great day where I would not be interrupted.
During the first song, I had the urge to take a photo of the sky, so I did. About ten minutes later, in the middle of the second song, I was thinking about how the sky had already changed, the clouds already moved, so I took another photo. I ended up taking ten photos, one for each song, and combining them all into one image. I'm no professional photographer (not even an amateur one tbh), but I'm happy with the result.
The sky had never looked so beautiful before. It's always above us, it's a given, but actually looking at it, paying attention to it, watching the clouds slowly move in the air, twisting and turning, combining and splitting apart, was such a serene experience.
We have a constant spectacle hovering over us in the form of scattered light and suspended water particles.
