That's what I thought this was all about.
Conformity isn't the best way for a human being to develop, yet it's the only way to keep a million-plus population of people manageable and from turning on itself.
The only logical reason for raising a society with a head count that high is so whenever it goes to war against another, it will outnumber them like the Chinese did in those all civil wars they used to have. Hense "Quantity over Quality".
Unfortunately, quantity alone doesn't guarantee such an advantage, no thanks to the invention of nuclear weapons.

its hardly a surprise. home schooling means a household economically stable enough for a single parent income. a virtual luxury. added that the subjects to be tailored to the childs interests while providing 1on1 support for those that arent.
there is also selection bias that those from homeschool environments will fail to provide proper education, will result in children ineligible for standardised testing. similarly to failing schools producing childern that are illiterate. and those that think the grocery store makes food while farmers are just rich capitalist landholders who just like to play with big dirt vehicles.

Shouldn't you have linked to the specific journal in question, here? https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/11212097/
I mean, rather than your journal page in general? If someone follows that link at some point in the future after you've made another journal, they'll be looking at the one on top, which will no longer be related to the topic at hand, presumably.

Well, I'm glad you're doing it, but I still don't understand why you were against it in the first place.
If it was because of the extra work involved, then you could provide feedback to make the system, better.
If it was being anti-authority, surely there are better targets than a furry website.
But I don't post, so I don't understand. I like tags. They help me find stuff I like.

Exactly, any change designed to help this website's content be more searchable can only be a good thing imo, since FA's search system absolutely sucks compared to basically any other art hosting website I've used (yes, even DA's search is better than this place's). I don't understand how some people think crashing out like this over a change this mundane is justifiable, I gotta be honest.
It's always bothered me that this place has such a bad search system. So, I was glad when they started working on improving it.
The thing is, they seemed to indicate it's a work in progress. It will get likely get better; they will probably consult and accept feedback.
But I'm a believer in feedback and continuous improvement.
I think there is also miscommunication in regarding tagging old works. Artists are not expected to do that at this point.

Exactly. This isn't some rigid, unchanging system, nor is it anywhere NEAR as authoritarian or "fascist" (yes, I saw some people literally calling it that) as some people seem to believe for whatever reason. It's literally just asking artists to put some words to their artwork so it can be reliably found in the search system by people who aren't already following them. I really, truly fail to see how that can be a bad thing, let alone anything worth making a hill out of and choosing to die on it.
If this is the case, then I'm amazed that these people don't see that this will only bring them further bad optics as it makes them seem like volatile reactionaries. I myself am an American who's really not a fan of the regime currently running things over here either, so I understand the want to take a stand against genuine authoritarianism, but this really, really isn't it.
Did you seriously make a vent piece about this.
You made the mountain even larger because none of us were making it out to be a 'conform' thing.
Throwing a hissy fit because FA updated it's policies and you're expected to follow them LIKE EVERY OTHER WEBSITE makes you come off as a spoiled freakin' brat.

It's three words dude. You're not being a rebel. You're dying on a dumbass hill. Keywords are amazing. I can finally FIND things and not have to discover every artist via luck or e621. I can finally blacklist kinks that gross me out.
You are bitching about a feature that is nothing but a good thing for you and every other artist out there- or is it because you're already big enough to worry about that, that the 'inconvenience' of seven seconds of work is such a big deal to you?
The time you spent drawing this piece probably ate up more time then it'd take to tag every upload you make for a year. Do you freak out every time there's a minor inconvenience in your life that benefits someone else or did you make a special exception here because you got in trouble?
But you do you, dude. This system is great and the site is better for it.

That's a vast over reach comparison. Jack not typing in keywords only affects his personal metrics, no one else. Not having a liscense affects others when you drive because it elongates the paperwork for court. Jack is allowed to create vent art if he wants in protest. As you are allowed to criticize him for this behaviour. But let's not pretend he's doing anything unreasonable like eschewing a liscense.
My point wasn't to compare them on an equal level, my point is that things are inconvenient if you look for reasons for them to be. Jolly said, and I quote "if that inconvenience was forced; I'd hope anyone would" in response to me saying, again, quote: "Do you freak out every time there's a minor inconvenience in your life that benefits someone else"
My examples are of inconveniences forced upon us by modern society that benefit someone else. Having to get a license is an inconvenience, but it's important you show a form of mastery over a machine that can be extremely dangerous if used irresponsibly. Having to go and buy groceries is an inconvenience, but you need food to survive both to feed yourself and anyone in your care (I have a cat, for example. I can't feed him without going and purchasing food) and in our modern age most of us don't create enough food on our own to sustain ourselves.
Admittedly the latter of the two examples is a bit shakier as you may not have anyone in your personal care, but on the other hand, if you starve to death your family isn't exactly going to be happy about that I imagine, and I was just throwing examples out off the top of my head.
Having to have a minimum of 3 tags yes, is inconvenient. But it helps people find your work, and it helps people blacklist things that they do not want to see. The latter of which is the the more important of the two, and why, I imagine anyway, that they added the minimum tag requirement. I for one LOVE the ability to hide things as I please, as there are some kinks that outright make me physically ill to see.

Whilest I can agree with your premise of the arguement of tags being beneficial for the community at large, you don't get to hide behind the morality angle of community betterment when you led with calling him a spoiled brat. It appears disengenious when you retroactively find justification for your slander after condenscending to someone about their own opinion. You want tags specifically for your own benefit, which isn't inherently wrong. But got mad that someone held a counter opinion, and rather than leading with the reasonable example of the benefits tags can bring. You then proceeded to throw the tantrum you were just accusing Jack of doing. It is only afterwards that you spontaneously managed to pull up a counter arguement of the benefits of tagging. Presumably after finding time to cool off afterwards.
You cannot fault others for finding your arguement lack luster when you started with character assasination and insults before working your way back to make to a moderately reasonable posistion. Did the way you conduct yourself earlier help your stance in any meaningful way? Did you legitimately think any helpful discourse or change of Jack's or other people's opinion when your opening statement was to condescend to him by calling him a brat?
I personally like tagging myself, for ease of user interface. But Jack is allowed to have a counter opinion, especially considering his visceral reaction probably has a lot to do with law fare going on in England. Where when speaking about similar policies has led to public shaming. While it is a stretch to connect the two given the vast difference between the policies. Chances are this is just the staw that broke the camel's back for him.
Letting him vent here, hurts literally no one. Criticism again, is your right, should you choose to do so. But you have been arguing in bad faith from the outset and letting your irritation hinder and skew your counter arguement. The inconveinences arguement was a bad paralell from the outset. Especially when you step back and consider your literally arguing the same point. Both of you are arguing for your own comforts. Jack is just behind honest about his intentions, even if he is being brusque and volumous in his posts.

I did not START with that. This conversation started when he wrote the initial journal in which I calmly told him he was making a mountain out of a molehill, compared it to another site with extreme mandatory tagging requirements, and tried to give him a set of easy keywords he could use and reuse. A journal where a LOT of people also disagreed with him, and instead of either taking the opinions given to him, or, if he still disagreed, just leaving the subject alone, he chose to double down and waste time drawing this piece.
Now kindly leave me alone if you're going to waste my time arguing without full context. Jolly doesn't need you to argue for him anyway.

You DID lead with that. That you had another discussion prior doesn't validate poor behaviour afterwards. These are two different conversations. I'm not lacking context just because I haven't read every post betwixt you and him or him and the community at large. That a lot of other people hold similar opinions that he is being unecessarily dramatic doesn't justify you degreding him.
I'm not arguing for Jack, he is an adult and presumably can take care of himself. I was disagreeing with your assertion before you back slide to faux moral arguement. I'm calling you out on your poor behavior now, specifically because I use the site too, and hope people can be more civil to each other in general. I'd rather the site not decline into or continue to go on where such behavior is normal.
If you think this is a waste of time your free to not respond if that's what you think. But I don't plan to drop it, just because you think it's a "waste of time" after being called out for being unecessarily rude and childish. I imagine Jack felt much the same way when you called him a brat. Yet it was appearently socially acceptable to conduct yourself as such regardless.

You strike me as one of the “sovereign citizen” types that constantly get made fun of on YouTube and Twitter, because this is the exact same sentiment they’re constantly pushing. I hope you’ll come to your senses once you get this juvenile rebelliousness out of your system.
While Itaku doesn't enforce the presence of tags in general, you are required to include any tags that would be commonly blacklisted.
Inkbunny requires sex, species, essential themes and AI generation tags.
Weasyl's guidelines ask for "at least two tags."
Hentai Foundry requires keywords.
At most what is unique to FA is making a particular rule, (minimum number of tags), impossible to violate¹. I can see no real argument against doing so when a rule is easy to automatically enforce, (it both saves time for the mods and prevents accidental violations²).
1: It's probably not the only one that has mandatory fields on the submission page.
2: And "can't be bothered to actually read the rules" violations. Which, IME, are by far the most common type of non-deliberate violation.

And you care, why? At this point you're just bitching for the sake of having something to bitch about, despite it having literally zero impact on you or anything related to you whatsoever.
Dislodge the stick from your ass and go away, please.
Edit:
The main quote from your profile is literally just Taric from League of Legends. This explains untold amounts of things.

Wrong. Other people post my art for me. I do not use e621 as it harbors and supports known child molesters. I'm good on that front, thanks.
In fact, I've tried multiple times to get my stuff removed from e621, but since they've banned my account for standing up to cub porn art, I can not contact staff to request take downs. I've got a DMCA with Copyright pending actually.

Like what? That I like Taric?
I haven't played League in over a decade. I just think Taric is cool, lmfao.
And yes. It does impact me. I like having the ability to easily search for things as well as blacklist them if its a kink that grosses me out. Jolly isn't being a rebel here. He's dying on THE stupidest hill here.

What the absolute fuck does online safety acts have to do with mandatory tagging? You realize they had a system for blocking kids frommaccessing smut for ages, right? That's what the age rating system is for, and why you are required to input your birthday.
Do you have any idea what you are on about?

The announcement that included the requirement that submissions will now require a minimum amount of tagging was two months ago, (and there was a heads up that it would be coming back in February, when tag blocking was introduced):
https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/11169318/
The rule JolyJack was violating is even older, at over a decade.

As a long time fan, I can understand your frustration. It sticks when things are forced upon users, and they are way too overzealous about implementing it.
Personally though, the tagging system has allowed me to block a lot of stuff I was really tired of seeing, and if it wasn't mandatory, people wouldn't actually use it and blocking would be pointless.
Still, you're not 'stupid' for not liking something. This does seem like it blew up more than it had to which is a bummer though.

Exactly how I feel, yeah. I'm not opposed to these rules being questioned so they can improve, but what's happening here isn't that. This is pathetic and childish to pose as some noble fight against overt control when it's an incredibly reasonable and easy ask that does a genuine good for the site as a whole and the users. This guy needs a reality check.
Let us get this strait....
Instead of letting people enjoy sharing their thoughts, either positive OR negative, YOU choose to spend YOUR TIME and energy creating a post attempting to deride/chide/insult them?
Nothing better to do with YOUR life, or are you merely trolling for the lolz?
Don't bother answering. I honestly don't care.
Simply calling it out as I see it.

Trolls (And Fools) are like Moths-to-a-flame on the internet. The instant they see or find anyone DARING TO HAVE A DIFFERENCE OF OPINION, it's like blood in the water for sharks: They're COMPELLED to react in their typical fashion.
(Personally, if you manage to incite them (ie, piss them off)? *GREAT!* I have no problem provoking the Fools infesting the world, but that's just me!)

Yeah there's definitely no problem with the fact that this rule applies retroactively to EVERYTHING ever posted by artists, must be fixed immediately or potentially results in a ban, is inconsistent in what in considers to be 'improper tagging' has a three character limit to each individual tag, completely kills the 'fun tags' where artists would occasionally toss in a goofy joke since those are unrelated, and lets not forget theyre also forcing all tags to conform more heavily with the standard browsing system, to include gender. Which if you recall they entirely removed a few months back stating it was 'often times unclear or didnt accurately tag artwork'. Nothing wrong with that at all!
He only had to fix things that were improperly tagged after the policy was changed. This is very different than the "many years of uploads" you thought needed fixing.
They're just drawing what they think, I'm just saying what I think. And pointing out when someone gets facts wrong, because it's bad for people to think objectively wrong things. :)
As for your last sentence. Yeah, I mean. What an artist owes the site is an interesting question, I think. FWIW, I do think he should leave the site if his continued stance is this "I'll do it BUT IM FROWNING THE ENTIRE TIME" nonsense. His fanbase is likely self-sustaining and if he really thinks this is some significant imposition on his time or liberty or whatever, he should have courage of conviction and just leave. Or, he should admit FA and the creatives that populate it have a mutually beneficial relationship, and he should be happy to help it improve.

Knowing what this is *actually* about makes this deeply pathetic. You are acting like you are fighting some noble battle against fascism while throwing a fit about being made to tag your art when you upload it by typing three words. Holy shit dude, grow up. Get some perspective. Wow.
Wow, just look at all that self_important finger_wagging from entitled consumers of free media, scared of not getting their Jollyjack fix. Now, that is childish.
The more I looked into the rule behind this crap, the less I liked it. There's some bad shit going down behind our backs, mark my words.

Well, if you truly and honestly feel the system is bad then fair.
I just think the system makes for a better user experience in the site, so when I say that I think it's best to tag the uploads, I am not asking you to conform, I am saying that I think it's a good thing... Now, if to you that is asking you to conform because you don't see it as a good thing, then fair I get you :v

Oh, one thing in favor of your stance that I just thought about is that this site was never like that and REQUIRING tags, while I myself find useful, is a drastic change for people who loved the "just post the art" aspect of it.
I formed this thought when I realized I love other website because they have good tagging systems :v
But hey, you did complain about DA's Eclipse and logo change, keep it up complaining here. Hell, I could see removing the REQUIREMENT of 3 tags as a good to prevent artists like you getting kicked, but I'd still recommend it :P

I went to see what the problem was first. I imagine it's the tags, right?
If so, unfortunately it's a necessary evil. There's a lot of good art on FA but there's also a lot of really awful stuff, and the only way to enjoy the former and avoid the latter is to filter what you want to see by tags. But that said, I can imagine the problem of retroactively redefining tags for a bunch of images you've already posted.

guys this is the same guy constantly profiting of school shootings while having nothing bad to say about his own chosen government. he is a tiddy artist thinking he has ground breaking world views. of course he would be a pissy about the most minute shit. hamster return to tiddy and STAY there
It might not h3lp, but auto posters can typically deal with tagging once you set them up. You could theorhetically get around the tagging by using jolly jack and artwork in all future posts. I personally like tagging myself, but it seems unnecessary to force others to tag if they don't want to.
I studied in public school from 1963 to 1975. I never had to do the repeated writing on the blackboard and nobody I knew ever had to do it. My brother had a substitute teacher in elementary school who made the entire class write I WILL NOT ACT LIKE A CRO-MAGNON 500 times on paper -- a take-home over the weekend project. Nobody ever saw that substitute again after the following weekend. Apparently her method of handling things was out of line with the sensibilities of the University which still effectively runs the town.
My point (and I do have one) is that this is not really necessary for the smooth running of a website. Fur Affinity ran for almost 20 years without this sort of slavish compliance to eye-crossing and tee-dotting and the occasional (okay, freakwent) server crashes were not caused by improper tagging procedures. I have a Baccalaureate in Computer Science and worked as a Systems Analyst for 28 years so I think I know what I'm talking about. This sort of activity would be demanded by button-down minds who are overstepping their authority.
Anyone else getting a little paranoid about posting here? Yeah, I haven't posted anything new in over a year BECAUSE I'M AFRAID TO!!!
