"The view's much better where I am if you prefer, Artemis..."
Artemis gasped loudly as he peered out from behind the tree, gazing with a star struck. There she was, the most beautiful cat he had ever seen painting the most beautiful picture atop the hill. Looking his way no less.
Luna the black cat was always seen here working on her latest inspiration all by her lonesome. However, to Artemis, she was a work of art unto herself. She was a plump young lady who was often seen with something to eat. Some of the villagers often made light of how such a well-mannered girl could let her body go but Artemis only saw it as more of her to love.
Whenever he could get away from his chores as a farmhand, he'd go up the hill to look at her when she was painting in the fresh air. Other times, he'd get lucky and see her dining on a very big meal out in town but the hill was where he'd always find her some way or another.
Artemis often dreamed stepping out from the tree and properly introducing himself, brainstorming opening lines to capture her head. But all he could muster the nerve for was pining from afar in fear of rejection. What would a work of art like Luna want with a smelly farmhand like him?
So where she turned towards him one a day like any other, Artemis felt his heart throbbing a mile a minute while stumbling out from behind the tree. A red blush was very apparent upon his white furred face when he realized just how unsubtle his spying had been. What if she took his for a lecher, hoping the breeze would lift her skirt?
Not that... the thought even... occurred to him.
But the smile that Luna made at him while she held her hat against a teasing wind so eased his nerves. It was inviting him in. Past the wall he'd imagine between them. So he took one step after another forward after a deep breath and found himself looking directly into Luna's ruby red eyes. Gulping, he attempted his pick-up line.
"I like your... belly..."
Artemis clenched his teeth over such a botched line while Luna looked at him perplexed. He was sure that he'd get a slap for such an insensitive remark but instead, he got a solid minute of laughter from her. Luna had to keep her gut from jiggling from how hard the giggles had hit her. This firmly dispelled any fears from Artemis's mind about rejection.
"Your stomach isn't half bad either," Luna chortled back after her minute. "I overpacked for lunch so perhaps we can make it as big as mine."
The tender gaze they shared between each other's eyes was only for another minute but Artemis know those sixty seconds were more like sixty years with the lovely Luna.
"Who could say no to that?" he replied as natural as breathing.
