Had this thought while doing a sport I enjoy. I do it consistently, it’s fun so doesn’t feel like work and keeps me in shape. If I got hurt or couldn’t do it anymore? Honestly don’t know what I’d do with my time

Find what interests you, and is practical with work available most of the time. Train for it every day then.

So long as no pockets are picked, no legs are broken...etc

I can relate, I've worked as a radio station engineer for decades, have no idea what I'm going to do when I done here.

I know what I want to do but it might not be achievable.

Don't laugh.

I want to own a convenience store out in the middle of nowhere.

You have to be your own boss, decide when you can afford a vacation and be responsible with your time off combined with your time working. Its not easy.

I suppose something similar is why some bright Japanese lord or emperor institutionalized getting a "thing" among the samurai class. They were asked to pick a thing and go at it with the same need for perfection as the art of the duel; Write, do poetry, paint, pick a hobby craft, etc. It was seen they needed something besides casual murder to become a more complete person (especially in winter) A swordsman cannot be on his game his entire life and needed something besides teaching at a dojo to fall back on when old or crippled.

Yep... a miserable thought for those of us who over-specialize or hyper-fixate.
