I was going to give her more practical attire but half the stream threatened to revolt so blame them for the tiddy armor. I was just following orders. Also, yes Frogé. I think... Shit, where'd I put him? Oh no. Hoisted on me own pitard. Well, I think he's in there somewhere. JFC.... WHERE ARE YOU!? Little bastard. I have no one to blame but myself and my own maniacal hubris. Frogéd too close to the Sun.
(Okay but seriously, where is he? Been looking for like five minutes.)

Originally, it was ordinary metal but I accidentally CP'd a piece of the background onto it and someone in the stream remarked that this made it look like glass so I ran with that. Then for the prismatic effect, that's just going over key points with different colors and layer effects. If you meant the scythe text, that's really easy- I drew the little symbols, copied the layer, Gaussian blurred it, then turned it into either an overlay, color dodge, or linear dodge layer.
I stream quasi-regularly on my server if you're interested.

The leaf caught my eye immediately, but with how much detail you usually put in your pieces, I didn't think too much of it. Then I read the description, checked if someone else had made the joke I wanted to make, then went back to see if I could find the lil guy, which took a while longer, because I didn't think to check the odd leaf immediately. So if first instinct counts, I would say maybe 10 seconds, but for the actual search after I knew I was looking, I think maybe a minute and a half.
It was lovely seeing this get made slowly. If I remember this one you didn't have a model or reference, it was awesome.
And to be fair on the titty armor: she DOES look like she has a thick hide, so probably like having a metal armor piece and then leather around it, except more natural. So it is practical, but only to a species where they'd have thick leather skins to begin with. Protect the vitals while increasing mobility.

That settles it: This is the glint I will work into every blade edge I paint from hereon.
Not specifically, of course. But seeing the execution here provided a missing clue to why my standalone characters have seemed to lack something of interesting detail in the sheen where the edge meets the body of the blade. It appears when not working with chrome, I've unwittingly neglected simulating environmental pinpoint lighting. Well, no more - naked metal has its place, but I've squandered too many times it could have been alight with neon and fire and starbound death.
As so often, you teach simply by doing in a way that invites a thorough look.

I do stream quasi-regularly on my server, if you're interested. No interactivity requirements. Just chill and paint and sometimes music. But if you'd rather not, that's cool too.
As to the blade edge effect, I find that fucken around with colors until something looks right usually gets the job done. Really, that's like 95% of it. Well, that and layer effects. :D
