A young brown pelican waits patiently on a pier at Santa Cruz for treats from a fisherman who was perfectly happy to share some of his catch, even tolerating the occasional head-scratch from passers-by.

I'm not huge on Pigeons because they carry a lot of disease and cause me to get a lot of sick birds of prey in at work. However it's the fault of our species for that. Those and the Collared Dove are also the cause of the decline in my local resident dove species the Mourning Dove because those invasive birds are bigger and more aggressive. Of course it is again the fault of our species that they're invasive.
I adore Vultures so much. Such intelligent creatures. I'm also lucky to be currently working with a Ring-Billed Gull we have in Rehab and he is also very intelligent and amazing to work with. It will be bitter sweet when we release him.

There doesn't seem to be an area of the planet that hasn't been thrown out of whack by human activity. The concept of environmental protection is still pretty new, too... when I was a kid (way back in the pre-Nintendo days), the idea of not allowing corporations to dump toxic junk wherever they wanted was sort of radical and hippy-dippy.
Vultures will probably always have a bum rep simply because they eat gross things and don't conform to the normal "cute" standard, but I've always thought they were sort of charming. Must be fascinating to work with them. :3

Heh... well, here's what I've been able to do so far: visit a rainforest, get kissed by a kangaroo, hold a ferret, hold an alligator, visit the Everglades, pet a cougar, rub a dolphin's tongue/ride a dolphin, hang out with some wild bears, hang out with wild elk, visit Hawaii, visit Mexico, visit many Caribbean islands, scuba dive in a coral reef, swim with wild sea turtles, feed some stingrays, sail in a tall ship, visit Paris, see the Mona Lisa, see Notre Dame cathedral, stand under the Eiffel Tower, visit Russia, visit Alaska, visit Disneyworld, and of course skritch a pelican. :3
What's still to be done: visit Australia, re-visit Paris so I can actually go up into the Eiffel Tower this time, have dinner at the French Laundry restaurant in San Francisco, visit Japan for some authentic ramen and sushi, see a volcano erupting, get an otter smooch, rediscover a lost film (any lost film), get a book published and somehow, someday get into Club 33 in Disneyland. Everything else is extra frosting. :3
What's on your list?
