So, decided to go with a simpler pic from
SonicSweeti this time, and went with hacker mouse DeeDee, Huntress' friend and often co-conspirator. Basic idea was DeeDee breaking into the CEO's office at a corporation... and getting in with classic 'social engineering', carrying around a laptop/tablet as the modern version of 'walk around with purpose and a clipboard and everybody will assume you belong there'. Because, yeah, usually the weakest part of any security system is the people who have to work with it. So she walked into the CEO's office because anybody going there looking like they were doing something important obviously was actually meant to be there, then hacked into the terminal he'd left open in his desk, and waited for someone to come back so she could tell them exactly how much of a problem they had...

"I mean, you're still using a baseline Pacifisec keycard system... didn't you realize that their network got hacked a month ago and their HQ got rather publicly trashed? Really, any security contractor worth what you're presumably paying them should know that 'change the default admin passcode' is one of the first things you do, even if the supplier hasn't been hacked."
(Unmentioned is the fact that she was part of the team that broke into Pacifisec in the first place.)
"And no, I'm not going to tell you who put me up to this. Not even if you pay me. I'm a professional, and the only reason I give out information on my clients is if their payment bounces. That said, they tried to haggle me down and didn't pay enough for a proper job, so I will tell you that if your data forensics people are any good, you can probably use the list of files I copied out to limit the possible suspects down to about two others that would be interested in that information."

Hehe, also was remembering the first couple scenes of "Sneakers" while I wrote that.

Oi, now that takes me back.
As I've mentioned before, I've done real computer security work, which has included a few bits of 'white hat' hacking (it's never been my primary job, but when some of the projects you're working on are recording financial transactions for tracking, figuring out ways to hack into the secure storage so the potential flaws can be documented even if they're not fixed is a part of the job). As a result, most Hollywood (or cyberpunk) hacking just makes me twitch. I still consider WarGames one of the best depictions of hacking ever, where most of it was done as a montage scene of him researching the guy who had designed the system to figure out what he might have used as a password. Which, of course, is another form of social engineering.

I like "Sneakers" a lot for the scenes where it shows them setting things up, and the cast works together so well. "Hackers" had similar stuff for the climax but it was very abbreviated.
... I have also never seen "WarGames". I think the movie I got dropped into more often instead was "The Manhattan Project" (1986 film). But I could go on for much longer.
I'm also mindful my "cyberpunk experience" is entirely in reading novels/shorts in Shadowrun. (Which, as I often get reminded, is not cyberpunk.)

Deedee is a professional hacker and thief; being able to look like she belongs wherever she goes is a useful capability. I've had her drawn in everything from casual wear to a little black dress to a formal kimono. Her clothes budget is pretty significant.
Yup, even if she's got a bit of a love/hate relationship with the fact at times. And it was a deliberate choice in her case: those looks (including just being a mouse at all) are all plastic surgery.
You might like the one 'macro' picture I did of her where she took over a holographic projection system: /view/57993638/
