This piece is actually quite experimental in nature: it marks the first prominent change in my fur-rendering technique initially described in my fur tutorial. Instead of relying on opaque blocks and mass scribbling, I've done most of the work using soft airbrushing, followed by detailing (which involved rendering fur hair-by-hair). It also managed to drastically cut down the amount of time taken. I'm really quite pleased with it. A photo reference was used from one of my wolf calendars, as well as stock texture for the forest floor that was manipulated to match the rest of the background.

Very nice picture. Your new style of filling in fur resulted in a pretty amazing product. The furs beautiful, and shading makes the wolf look just like a young timber wolf.
The trees in the background are pretty basic, but I think it actually looks better than that way with the fog covering everything; :P feels like a beautiful fall morning in one of the north western forests of North America. Final thing that I really liked about the picture is the condensation from the breath of the wolf. It’s another small detail that most artists would always overlook. The nose and mouth (correct word’s escaped my mind) also just strike me as being very fell done in color and formation. Has a very realistic look to it. Great work, really enjoyed looking at it :P.

Thank you very much, again! I appreciate it a lot, really. I know I keep saying it, but I really do mean it.
Heh, yes, the trees are simplistic, because I really didn't want to take away from the subject. The background was more for FEEL than anything else.
Thanks again :3

Thank you very much! If you're wondering how I do fur, I have a number of tutorials (including one for pencil!) here :)
