Someguy Sketches 148 - Office Fox [STORY]
<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>
Darren sat at his desk, mulling over everything that'd happened in the last two days.
After Mew disappeared and he stopped screaming, he gathered his things and rushed back home, with only a few people noticing him on the way. When he got back, his girlfriend Kayla freaked out at the sight of him, but he managed to use a pencil long enough to write out an explanation.
With her help, he called out of work for the day, but it used up his last sick day for the month. They spent the rest of the day working through what they were gonna do, before watching TV to forget some of the stress. Before bed, he sent an email to everyone at the office, informing them of what was going on.
Understandably, almost nobody believed him, and as a result, they were gobsmacked when Kayla dropped him off. Darren somehow managed to get through that day more smoothly than he'd ever excepted. No angry mobs, no FBI agents coming to take him away — just an avalanche of questions dumped onto him by his coworkers.
Today, the questions had died down, but in their place returned that familiar stress of work. He sat on a spare barstool from the supply closet (his chair couldn't raise high enough to accommodate for his shorter stature), typing away at one of the 13 ongoing projects. On his second monitor, he had a text-to-speech program open as a means of verbal communication.
One of his coworkers, Mark, ducked into the doorway of his cubicle, a folder in his hand. "Hey Darren," he began sympathetically, "I know you're under a lot of stress right now, but we need that timesheet by 3:00."
Darren glanced at the clock on his computer. 1:42 p.m.
He typed his response into the TTS program, and its monotone voice answered: «No problem.»
Mark nodded, set the folder on the desk, then disappeared from whence he came.
Darren groaned and slammed his head onto his desk, his temples throbbing with the onset of a headache. "(I need some ice cream....)"
Poor Darren.
I think this is the most detail I've put into a Someguy Sketch so far, especially when it comes to backgrounds.
Fun fact: that last line is a reference to the fact that Darren's name was originally going to be "David". I think some of you can figure out how those correlate.
