A hoverfly or flower fly, Syrphidae sp. (Sp. being a fancy way scientists tell you they have no bloody clue what they're looking at)
I love these little things. Such beautiful markings and golden colour on the thorax. This one is, of course, coloured as to mimic a Yellow Jacket wasp, an aggressive and stinging wasp species most insect eaters stay well away from. The flies who mimic them are completely harmless, however, and actually quite beneficial. Apart from being important pollinators for various flowers, many species have larvae that prey on well-known pests such as aphids and thrips.
They get their name from their ability to hover - they're often seen hovering around flowers.

I know this is kinda late, but I guess it's a she. :)
You can tell from the Eyes and the colors most easily. Can't see the Eyes completely, so I'm not sure.
Eyes apart -> Female. :3
I love these Guys. I just love 'em. Watching them hover barely one inch in front of the Cover of your Ice-Tea for half a Minute, changing perspective multiple Times while doing so - or even in front of yourself, keeping the same distance to you constantly, once you ended up as Subject to their incredibly cute Curiosity.
I rescued one yesterday, she got lost in our Bathroom somehow. :)
It's just too cute when they're sitting on your Hand after being cought, not even trying to take off, but humming as if trying to communicate with you.
Instant Fave.
