Ricardo was an ordinary clanrat farmer until he heard about a competition for the best mount for the clan. For years, breeders had been bringing their pets to the clan leader, but he had always rejected them. And then Ricardo decided to breed one huge rat from the wild ones, just right for riding. Gracie grew up hardy and obedient, so much so that she even impressed the clan leader. The competition ended, and Ricardo created the brotherhood of packmasters, teaching his craft to anyone who wanted it. And lthough not everyone ultimately became as skilled a rider as he, Ricardo was pleased with his significant contribution to society.
