Batty's friend, Harriet, benefits from many resources and friends, some of whom she set to protect Batty while she left London on business. Unfortunately for Harriet, the problem at hand is one that Batty does not necessarily consider a problem.

Batty's memory issues were caused by something it tried in the past, and it has trouble focusing on anything it's not immediately fixated on, so even when talking to someone dear to it like Harriet, a lot goes in one ear and out the other.
